Foal is here!

Ooh I love him! What a beauty. Will you keep him? My favourite Icelandic horse was called Idni means industrious. It really suited. A fabulous breed and so practical! Little food needed such good doers and tiny poos! Love them!

My lovely mare had a stunning foal a few days ago. All well with mother and son. Overjoyed with the two of them. They’re being very well looked after (on full livery) and I’ve had some cuddles with the little boy (and his mum of course) and I’m so glad I did this mad thing of importing her in foal, unseen. I’ve gone from never thinking I’d ever own my own horse to having two in a few months - feeling very lucky! My mare is looking very fit and has already slimmed down a bit, and seems to have grown a bit in height since she foaled (is that a thing?!). I can see her as a riding horse in a few months (winter time) and can’t wait to ride her - but she’ll have a nice long maternity leave of at least six months first.
😄😄

Yes, we’re keeping him! The dream is to ride out together - my daughter and I (and hopefully husband, he’s very light) in five years or so. Idni is a nice name!

He's gorgeous (as is his mum)! I do love an Icy! They're both similar colouring to the one I rode the last time I was in Iceland. He was called Máni (pronounced Mau-nee), which means moon. In case you find it useful, I just found this link of suggestions for Icelandic horse names (I was trying to remember which accent was needed on the 'a'.): https://www.tolt.net/names.html

Thank you! I rode a Máni in Germany once! I am on World Fengur (Icelandic horse database) so I can see all the approved names there. Some very strange ones and many lovely ones. Current favourites are Álfaprins and Draumaprins (elf prince and Prince Charming).

How's he doing? Have you taken any more photos?
I’m away most of the summer, coming back in two weeks time. I haven’t heard anything but will enquire. Hopefully a few photos but if not then I’ll take loads when I’m back. I’m starting to miss both a lot now.
