I brought a yearling at the weekend, and its just dawned on me that he hasnt been microchipped, whos responsibilty is this now to get done mine or the dealer we brought him from?
Also this might sound like a dumb question but if it is my responsibity is it the vets I contact for getting it done?

TIA

Sorry but as ceiron said you need a microchip to have registered a foal Unless he was born before June last year (and registered) when this rule was enforced...but now he's yours its your responsibility..don't forget to get his Passport updated with his chip number :)

Oh and yes Vets carry out chipping....relatively simple procedure but my yearling was mildly sedated and he still jumped a mile!!

For 4 you probably will get ome sort of discount. As for microchips - after it was questioned who was going to chip all the semi-feral ponies in NF and exmoor etc, and who was going to pay for it - it was pretty much accepted that microchipping would not be required for these ponies to get passports. He is now in your possession so your responsibility to get him done.
Quite a simple procedure - I find ponies and foals rarely jump but some of the older horses certainly do. Some vets use a bleb of local - some sedate, but its easier to just jab tham and get it over with.
