Since it was a lovely day a couple of days ago I snapped a couple of pics of the boys out in the paddock.

Rodney was 3 weeks old, Leo 10 days old and Kharma 1 day old.

Poor old Kharma (Kossette's baby) has had to endure manual removal of imacted meconium and then the indignity of a phosphate enema...fingers crossed he's ok now...

Fab pictures..... Kharma must be the most beautiful foal I've seen this year..... glad I'm not local as I would have to come down and cuddle him!

I agree, that spotted foal is SOOOOoooooooooo striking !!
Makes me feel all broody (she says, eyeing sec c filly out of window for broodmare potential ..)

Where does Kharma get his spots from? Were you expecting a spotty foal?

They all look like they are enjoying themselves

Oh they are absolutely gorgeous!!!!!

I can't believe I missed Kossette's foaling.... having sat up and watched her for 3 consecutive nights

When is your cremello mare due to foal? (she's gorgeous by the way!)

DiesilDog - Kharma's spots come from daddy Hamlet Frydenlund who is a graded Knabstrupper - he has a 50% chance of throwing spots so I was hoping for spots!!

2 of my other black Trakehners are in foal to Knabstruppers too - Eclipse (due in 3 weeks) is in foal to Kharma's daddy so again 50% chance of spots, and her sister Ballerina is in foal to Faust af Elmelygaard who is guaranteed to throw spots of some description.... She's due in May...

I do love the spotties!

I was wondering what KNN meant. They must have different genetics to appaloosas as you are never guarranted spots or even a 50% chance with them - best bet is a few spot.

DiesilDog Faust is a fewspot which like you say is as close as you can get to a guarantee - not sure if it is 100% guarantee or not though....Spottie genetics are more complicated than dilute or tobiano!! I haven't quite got my head round them yet. I only found out the other day that a snowcapped spottie is also 'homozygous' or as homozygous as spotties can be!
