Ok, I really don't believe in this kind of thing at all, but I did that nail thingy this evening....

If I did it correctly, and it did work (not that I believe it at all!!!!), then both of my mares are having fillies.

I tried it on the gelding too just to see if it worked or not and the nail did not move on him at all.

So, hopefully I will be able to prove or bust this myth sometime shortly!

I think it was Tia that posted about it the other day on here, so I thought I would give it a try!

I think (if I did it correctly) you tie a nail to a length of string and hold it over their bums very still and if the nail moves front to back it's a colt and if it goes round and round it's a filly.

It took a little while to move, but on both mares it went round and round. On the gelding it stayed rock still (give or take a bit of wobbling on my part!).

I don't know if there really is anything in it or not, but it was a bit of fun and the kids were fascinated!

Get a wedding ring on a string on place it over the pregnant mum. going round and round is a girl. going side to side is a boy. I didnt believe it to start with but having had 4 children and all predicted correctly plus all the other babies predicted correctly i am now a firm believer.... Your mares ARE having filles, when are they due....

How exciting... it worked on Hannah, as it said she was having a colt and out popped little (or not so little) Troy!

I am so excited for you Chambon... any signs that Dream could be getting ready?

Coincidence that this same nail post is on forums on different sides of the Atlantic on the same day, and it wasn't me that started the thread over here.

it has been said that it was all to do with minute muscle tremors and we are actually controlling the prediction, possible I suppose. I know that deep down I would have preferred a filly to a colt so did I cause the nail to circle after all?

Whatever, there's a 50/50 chance of being right and as long as mare and foal are OK it's just a bit of fun.

We need a thread with predictions and outcomes for this.

Have our expectant HHO Ladies done the test too?

Did it with my two, even did it again this afternoon to make sure, even got my hubby to do it again. So three times i was told that mia is having a colt and 3 times mae is having a filly.

My friend thought it might be something like iron etc in their diet, but they are all on the same feed etc.

Tried it with a non pregnant mare and it didnt move, then tried with a gelding, and again it didnt move.

Have to admit that when i did mae i was quiet scared as it was going around quite quickly.

I guess i will find out but it was a laugh

Same with me. I tried it on non-pregnant horses and the nail just did not move at all, but with the pregnant mares it did.

Cloud is supposed to have a filly in a couple of weeks. I've done it a number of times on her now and every single time it has said it will be a filly.

Oh you only have 16 days to wait until youve got a foal around, bet your excited.

My first one doesnt arrive until the end of april and then maes at the middle of may!

Im sleeping over at the yard lol, are you foaling yours inside or out?

Well I was going to foal her in her stable however I changed my mind and moved her into a little paddock right opposite my front door. She has a big 36 ft barn there and I can see into it at all times throughout the day and night as it is lit in there AND the bonus is that I have a very low window in my bedroom which happens to be right next to my pillow! How cool is that??

If we run into any problems then I may move her into her stable but we'll cross that bridge if or when we cross it.

The ring on thread is what I use and its great, all my ponies and calves and me were right. Just once it was wrong for a boy my friend was having and i said it was a girl but then he is 7 now and likes to wear beads and says he wants to be a hairdreesser ...
now i have two colts and a filly due according to the ring
