Hi, I have bought a 5 mth old colt foal will arrive when weaned but I can go see him whenever I want to get him used to me and be handled.

What Insurance company do you reccomened using for a foal??

What feed dou you suggest I feed him?

Mine was 5 months when I got him, he is insured with Petplan.

As for feed, mine had foal mix and is now on mare and youngstock, both with just a handfull of chaff and mixed with water. Also ad lib haylage - although now grass and a bit of haylage when im feeling generous (or when its wet I put it out under the trees because im a softy!).

I guess the people you get him from will advise best on feed as they will know what he has now etc
 
he probably wont eat for a little while, when i got my foals they were straight from mum and had never been handled or fed any hard feed x they came round 3 days later :-D
 
i have had my foal insured since she was 2 weeks old with scottish equestrain insurance services. As for feeding if the grass is good then they only get 24 hour turnout but it depends on breeding and routine what you feed them
 
Im going to insure with pet plan as thats who my mare is with. I feed stud and youngstock clubs, with a little water and molly chop. He's 7 weeks old and enjoys a little nibble. But see what he's been already having. Good luck
 
You don't say what breed of foal he is - this would have an impact on what you'd feed him. A good basic diet of something like Alfa A / chaff and either D&H Suregrow or Baileys Stud Balancer would be a good start and won't over face him with feed. If he's not used to feed then it will need to be introduced slowly.

I had my yearling insured with NFU.

The foal will already be on some sort of hard feed in all probability. Carry on with whatever feed the breeder has been using.
