My mare had her foal 2 days ago. She had him right at the end of the field. I tried to walk her the same day of him being born down to the stable but he would not follow. I thought it might be because he is so young. Yesterday was the same, he wouldn't follow & the mare got upset.
I have asked the vet to call out today to check him all over & to help me get him into the stable.
I have to be back at home this afternoon for a very important meeting. The vet cannot tell me what time they will be able to get to me. I am worried as they let me down with the last vist to sedate the little pony, they didn't turn up & said they didn't have enough vets on that day.
The weather is cooler & looks like rain. The forecast speaks of heavy downpours later.
If it comes to the last result & I have no choice but to try & move him myself, what is the best way? People have told me to pick him up & carry him, but I am scared of hurting him. I don't have an horsebox to try to get them into.
The last foal I had was years ago & the foal followed the mare straight away into the stable.
Can anyone help me with any advice please.
