My foal came in from the field on saturday with a droopy eyelid. Originally thought shed banged it but its still droopy 3 days on. No swelling and not weeping at all...just droppy! Doesnt seem in pain and theres nothing in her eye. If shes standing dozing its closed. Any idea what it could be?

My mare banged her head on the previous occupants salt-lick holder and although the skin wasn't cut or anything she was left with an eye that was only partially open. The vet advised that I gently massage the area above the eye every day and gradually over the following year she did regain some control of the eyelid. When she was tired it would droop again and she didn't always blink it properly. These days though you wouldn't ever know anything had ever been wrong.

Get your vet to check for nerve damage, many of the nerves in the face are somewhat subcutaneous therefore this needs to be ruled out as they can be easily disturbed or injured.
