This is a post I hoped I would never have to write. My lovely mare Betty lost her foal this morning-he was simply too broad in the shoulders for her to deliver and despite the efforts of my fantastic vets he failed to survive.
Betty is doing well and we have milked 700mls of colostrum already.
She is a first rate mother and I have already been in touch with the National Foaling bank but currently can't find a match. She is a 16.2 3/4 Tb event mare.Is there anybody who needs Betty's help with their foal? She needs and desperately wants a foal to mother.
I am based near Godalming in Surrey.
On another note, always follow your gut instincts if you think something is wrong.I was up all night with Betty and as soon as her waters broke I knew the pattern of labour was totally different to the birth of the colts older sister 2 years ago.Our vet was only 10 minutes away and if she had not arrived so promptly we would probably have lost Betty too.

Hi - so sorry for your loss.
Call 01626 355969 which is a mare and foal sanctuary. I know they have 2 orphan foals, but if they are suitable I don't know. Either way, they should be able to help. Sorry - best I can do.
Hugs

So sorry, it's heartbreaking but well done for thinking of the foster foal - helping another can help you and your mare come to terms with this dreadful loss.

((((HUGS)))))

thanks so much for all your support-I am still numb.Betty is eating well and seems comfortable and we are milking her still. We are preparing the foals body so we can foster if a foal appears in the next 48 hours or so.
You never think these things will happen to you do you-we had a textbook pregnancy ,Betty is in good condition [ ie covered but too lean for the showring!]and had such an easy delivery with the foals older sister 2 years ago. This colt was enormous though.
I just hope we can help another foal and also Betty get through this-she looks so sad.
