does any one know why a foal could have destressed breathing and be coughing. he has bee coughing about a week but day his breathing was quiet destressed and his glands where also swollen i have some idears just wondered if you had any ideas. he is about 7 weeks old.

I've really no idea about health issues but if I were you I'd have the vet down ASAP and keep the foal isolated in the meantime in case it's contagious. Hope it's nothing serious!

im taking him to the vets tuesday anyway but if he is any worse i will contact them tomoro, just wondered what people think.

Why on earth are you waiting until Tuesday. You should have contacted the vet before, why not contact him now.

i rang the vet and they said unless he get any worse they will leave him until tuesday as he is going over to them anyway.

It could be the onset of pneumonia,rhodacoccus or a common cold.No matter what it is I would have the vet out A.S.A.P and monitor his temp.Foals can go downhill very rapidly.Call your vet and get them out immediately.

Is he also running a temperature? No matter what the vets said I'd not be wanting to leave a foal with respiratory issues that long.

Any sign of illness in a foal is treated as an emergency.

Hope your foal doesn't continue to go downhill - but it would be an immediate call out for me I'm afraid.

ive just been to see him and he wasn't as bad so i will just keep checking him.

we had the vet and he is being treated for a bacterial infection and we have now got to wait for the blood test results from his mother. he is on all sorts of medication but does seem better in him self so that is a gd sign.
