Our yard has just separated mares and this year's foals (6 to 8 months old). I know it has to be done, but I always feel sorry for them. Foals are a bit bewildered and shouting for mum. Most of the mums (one exception) seem thoroughly relieved! Still, lots of noise and stress. Hopefully, they'll have settled a bit by tomorrow. My own mare is an old hand at it, and seems OK. Her foal is one of the older ones and a pretty independent character, so I've no real worries. Still feel a bit sorry for them though.

Yeah, it's hard to listen to them calling - your heart goes out to them.

Bandit was weaned a few days ago and it went well. I'm suprised really as Super has been so attached to him, but she didn't even call out for him. He's fine as well - although I've noticed he's not as friendly in the field. Before weaning he'd come up to you, but since weaning we have to work harder to get near him - I don't know why?
