i've always used wheat straw in my barn but my 6yo was a bit think in his wind last winter and i was considering trying something else. Has anyone tried Easibed or NedzBedz for loose barns? or will it cost a fortune?

I use Easibed and think its great. You are looking at about £40 (I think) to do a normal size stable.

I deep litter though and the ongoing cost is very cheap because you do not need much to top it up.

I deep litter too, but with shavings. Wouldn't do my beds any differently now. I use less shavings than the people on my yard that have rubber mats. My base is about a foot in height now very dry and very solid, warm through the winter and comfy for my gee gee.

Echo Dols. Deep litter on the back 2/3rds of the stable - bog standard shavings. Rubber matting on the front. Mine too is now very high, very warm, sweet smelling and comfortable. Ned always comes in, checks out his feedbowl, nibbles a wisp or 2 of hay, has a nose about to see what's going on, then crashes out for a 2hr kip! Fellow liveries joke that my D-E-E-P deep litter bed is a welfare issue coz if Sunny fell off it he could seriously injure himself lol!
