For everyone with trailers to transport your little darlings.... What trailer do you have and what size horse do you carry in it? Also what do you tow it with?

I am looking around at trailers and getting v confused. eg, the Bateson Ascot says it will carry X2 17hh, but the single Ifor is taller, wider and longer but says it will take a 16.2.

Also the Bateson says the stall lenght is 5'11 (but my horse has been in one and he is a 6'3 rug).

Hi

I've got a 17.1 mare who takes a 7ft rug.

I found that a Ifor 510 fitted her but I couldn't use the front ramp without her banging her hip coming out.

I tried a rice treble and that was ok but quite tight on headroom.

I now have an equitrek, space trekker large. she fits in with loads of room and its very easy load etc at shows on my own. I did look at some that werent built very well but then I found my one and its great.

I often take two big horses out in it and it tows very well with a mitsubushi shogun lwb 3.2 diesel.

I know how long I spent finding the right one so good luck.I begged lifts to try all sorts of trailers.

i have 15.3hh idxtb and have an ifor 401 single trailer and tow with a landrover freelander.

its big enough to tack up in if needed. and real easy to tow

I have a Richardson/Rice supreme ultra. It is the biggest one that I could find as I have 2 x 16.3hh warmbloods. They both fit in a treat with plenty of headroom, and plenty of length. They are both big long mares, one is 16.3hh and is long and takes a 7ft rug whilst the other is a just under 16.3hh, a little shorter in her body and takes a 6`9 rug.
I tow with a LWB Mitsubishi Shogun, 3.2 DID T. and I find it never struggles and is easy to maneouvre...

i have an equitrek show trekka. super concept, horses love it BUT it is a piece of crap and is falling apart. the worst thing i had was my wheel axle snapping when it was 6months old...oh and the customer service (IME) is horrendous...so wouldn't actually recommend them...

Bateson Deauvulle for 16.2 hunter.Always loads and travels well.

I have the biggest ifor willimas not sure what it's proper name is but I think it is supposed to be able to take 2x17.2hh mine are both 16.2hh and they have masses of room and the front and back chest bars are adjustable so you can alter the length they can stand in too. This is them in it yesterday!

I have an Ifor Williams 510 which regularly transports my 2 who are 17hh & 16.1hh many, many miles around the country. There is tons of room & they travel extremely well.

Smiles24: There really shouldnt be any need for your horse to catch his hip on the way out. If you are travelling him on the right just make sure you undo both front bars, fix the partition across the left & then make sure your horse moves his shoulders across to the left before turning to come out. Likewise for the horse on the left, move the partition across (I usually slightly squish the righthand horse & put the partition under his neck) to allow more room for coming out.

Ifor Williams 510. Takes two 16.2hh horses (6'6 rugs) with plenty of room to spare. As Chloe said the bars are adjustable and I have them on the smallest setting (I think, one certainly is!) so there's plenty of room for a longer horse and masses of head room

I have a Rice - a Popular. It's old but masses of headroom for a 16.2. If you are looking for a trailer, I think you should get one with a lifetime floor (made of metal). Wooden ones often need replacing and it gets pricey! If you have the cash, then I think Equi treks are meant to be the best..... but I have never tried one. I would have a Richardson Supreme/Ultra if I could! A friend has an Ifor 511 (that's the new version of the 510) and she swears by it.

I have an Ifor Williams 401 (single) trailer and my 15.1 mare loves it. She gets extra width room compared to half of a double and no one else in there to steal her hay!

She has loads of headroom, but is quite long (takes a 6'3 rug) and fits just nicely lengthways. I wouldn't put a 17hh in it though! Great to tow as it's the same widt has the car and follows the same path, less worry about squeezing through spaces or clipping kerbs and better vision behind you.

I have an equitrek night trekka, great concept and I love the trailer as it is like have a box but dreadful build quality and customer service.

We have a cheval liberte 3 horse trailer with a large tack section at the front. I think it's fantastic, the ramp is really low (can also be opened as a door) it's light and airy inside and you can put all tack and equipment in the trailer so the car is empty for people and dogs. The horses travel brilliantly in it and have had 100% success woth those that won't load or travel in a normal trailer.

Can easily fit a 14hh, 14.2hh and 15hh but anything bigger than that and you can only take 2 as they need to stand diagonally instead of sideways if that makes sense. It is also good for transporting motorbikes and mopeds

.

We are currently towing it with a 3.9L petrol/lpg disco and have also borrowed a friend's range rover which towed it easily. For a while we had a jeep cheroke but it wasn't up to the job and we sold it before the head gasket blew.

We have a Equitrek Space Trekka L model and tow with a landrover TD5. Ours are 16h and 15.1 cob but they are big boys and I have a bad loader and now thanks to Ifor Williams he did turn into a bad traveller for a while.!

We started with a richardson supreme, but needed to upgrade, so bought an Ifor 510 which my horse hated so got rid of trailer after 5 terrifying weeks and bought the Equitrek.

We are now looking to sell the landrover and get a Shogun 3.2 as that landrover has been in the garage 4 out of 6 months at £500 a go.. mmm

So, im pleased to read there are some of you towing an Equitrek with shoguns, and if anyone is looking for a landy, I have one with lots of repairs done.!! lol...

Thanks everyone this is really helpful.

So thumbs up for the the bigger trailers then and they really do fit big steads in

The Batesons seam lovely but also the smallest of the bigger trialers but it would seam there is plenty of room.

Horse would be travelling alone, so could be without a partition if needed.

Is there such a thing as a single trailer for 1 big horse? Or do ppl just take the partition out? Suppose it would depend how neddy liked to travel?
