For the last week we have had the 'pleasure' (use the term loosely) for having a pony on loan with a view to buy. We had it a couple of days and the pony clearly wasn't as described so I phoned the owners and told them I was returning it. So far, so good.
Take the pony back yesterday to a different yard from the one it was collected from, came home, cancelled the insurance and went back to the drawing board & started looking for another one.
Early evening, I got a phone call telling me the pony had hurt itself when it had been turned out in the new field - couldn't put weight on a back leg. They hadn't phoned a vet yet but wondered if my insurance was still live as they didn't have any!!! Given that they'd had all week to re-insure the pony I was less than chuffed.
Explained that my insurance had been cancelled and she tried to tell me that I should claim as the injury had 'possibly' happened before I had cancelled it and by doing so I would save her several hundred pounds!!
I'm not sure how I would have explained it to the insurance company something along the lines of "yes, I know I cancelled the policy 3 hrs ago, I'd now like to make a claim".
Anyhow, fortunately pony is less seriously injured than they first thought though whether or not they've now insured it is unclear.
Some folk!!
