muddy bit!!!
Visit site
just going to say i have not a problem with either of the facts of colours or cob

BUT
Why do you get some folk who think they can just dump a 6yr of this type and then do no work on education/simulation poor horse. Visit said animal for about 2 seconds days, watch it get fat bored and then complaint that they can't ride it

. NOT muck out stable for 3 days so poor animal stands in sh1t!!!, forget to do water in field!!! (at this point i couldn't cope and had to help cob cos that just CUREL!!)

When you say may be it needs a bit of work and time they come back with answer well its a cob??????? WTF

NO i think YOUR LAZY,

Luckly story has end well for cob, owner has taken cob back, but cob was given back dirt, fat and lose shoes!!!!!!!!!! - some poeple really shouldn't get horses and she wants a cob cos there easy to do

Please reassure me that it's just cos she's a 'LAZY TOAD' and NOT all cob owner act like this please, i know i've seen lovely types on here

Sorry really cross about this woman actions but now happy owner has taken said cob so hopefully it's life will be better

That is ridiculous, I dont know anyone like that with a cob, its usually the other way round the horses they cant cope with that get left as they are scared. But what a ridiculous way to look at it though, At least it is back with owner now though.

um, I don't treat any horse like that, cob or not! Henry is a large cob and I find he needs MORE riding and care than other types, simply to A: stop him getting too fat in summer or B stop him getting cobby and bolshy!!

its shamefull - why do people insist on having horse when they have neither the time, knowlege, or dedication to look after it. GET A HAMSTER!!!! Cobs need just as much work/care as a TB, WB or any other breed - makes my blood boil!

This really has nothing to do with coloured cob owners does it? Its just one particular coloured cob owner!!

Oh and I have a coloured cob that does nothing but get fat in a field. I haven't asked him if he's bored as we speak a different language but I'm pretty sure he's happy enough not to be trussed up in leather everyday and made to work out..LOL!! He's doing what he was born to do...eat grass...

I do get your point though about this particular animal though..

Ditto & ditto! Btw, Henry is stunning, with a capital 'S'!

The 'neglected' ones in my experience, if one had to choose a breed or type, tend to be more ponies, especially tiddlers like shetlands etc., forgotten once the novelty has worn off!

i knew she was LAZY
grin.gif
found out last week she has got a bit of name for herself doing this
smirk.gif

When she turned up at yard and we had chat, she wasn't in giving any hard at ALL, not interested in washing cob and at this point the alarm bells were going off in my head and at this point i haven't heard about her reputation.
BUT to chat too very nice person, just the most miss guided person i've every meet in horsey world, you can see why RSPCA was set up
wink.gif
, for people like her

but you do check out daily and give attention too??? ( i hope)
not stuck in field by 'toddy' and left to gallop around bucking, kicking over water buckets(so therefore no water) and just plain not cared for, with the excuse 'WELL it a cob'
And then not ride is cos and when it did ridden was just a 'happy chap' and it's only 6 and needs education that all and was just bored, so scared her and therefore left in field
crazy.gif

and in my eye not a nasty bone in it body, just a charcter

Such a generalised title all aimed purely at coloured cob owners!!! I know lots of owners of every other type of horse that literally do the "drive by" checking and leave them in either no grass or too much. I visit mine 3x daily (excessive but lucky enough to be close) rotate him twice daily from various places to stop a)hunger b)over-eating c)boredom and i ride him practically every single day and in 99% of weathers. I also faff with his feathers and mane (altho admittedly have given up this week with the weather) and am commented on for my dedication and a passer by commented on how "its nice to see someone so into their horse" the other day
smile.gif

glad im not the only person who's not embarrassed to be so devoted to their horse, some people ask me "do you not have a life?!" which i find very rude!!

i know alot of owners that dont really care about their horse and i find it really sad and it usually makes me quite angry as i think its nice when a horse has an owner that really loves them and wants to spend time with them

sorry yep, it is cos i was so peed off with this woman attitude, and want to reassured that this behaviour is NOT normal and she is
a - LAZY MOO AND
b - NOT fit to have any type of gg

i say again i really don't have problem with this type, i think i have a problem more with people being lazy and thinking that having a cob is less time and expensive than any other breed/type

ps your sign does look very nice

I have coloured cobs and they are the most pampered beasties ever. They are rugged in bad weather, visited and fed twice a day when living out out, poo picked daily, if in mucked out and then skipped out. They have the best of everything and are as pampered as my TBs were. They are bought in when hot and at the moment coming in at night as it is so wet in the field.

Most coloured cobs owners are like me to a greater or lesser degree and should not be give the broad brush dont' care approach.

However, I have met the odd few that treat them like a pikey pony - shove them in the field and forget about them. Problem is that the gypsy cob is a very forgiving little horse and hardy, hence they can cope with being left as long as they have water and some grass. Their fantastic nature means you can leave them for weeks and then just get on and ride. This is why they can attract the less desirable owner.

my traditional cob mare is the loveliest sweetest girl I could ever have wished for. She is ridden every day and much loved by my daughters and me. She has such a loving kind nature and is so pretty.
However she is the only cob at my small yard. Fortunately she and I are very thick skinned as some of the other liveries do not hide the fact that they think she is less important/capable than their horses.

Haven't read all the replies.............BUT WHAT A RIDICULOUS GENERALISATION..........and breathe........can you tell I own a coloured cob??

My mare wants for nothing and is definately more high maintenance than any other horse I have ever worked with/owned or looked after. If I not trying to fend off mudfever, it's sunburn and constant battle of the bulge (to the extent that I ride having just worked a 12hrs shift), intollerant to everything, grass, sugar, you name it...........despite all that, I wouldn't swap her for ANYTHING.

Aw thanks! He thinks so too!

to set record straight:
i know two very capable cobs and both doing BD and picking up points very nicely

I just really really hate this dump in the field stuff......

How can you even begin to think that all cob owners would act in this way?
crazy.gif

This person would have acted the same whatever type her horse was.

I'm sorry, but there are so many people out there who think people like me only buy cobs because we're idiots who are incapable of looking after something more refined.

Cobs are not starter horses for novice owners. Nothing more bolshy and hard to handle than a cob when in the wrong hands, IMO. All horses require the same fundamental level of care be they a cob, a thoroughbred, Arab and so on. It's just some require more specialised feeding than others.

that's why i posted this, cos i don't beleive that most folks would act this way.

I'm still personnel pretty pi$$y about, i've been chatting with OH all week and he telling me to keep my nose out, but in end couldn't but i personnel was shocked as she was saying that it only a 'COB'
crazy.gif

I know their not my bag BUT i was more concerned for animal welfare and just wanted to confirm on here that folks with cobs on here, do pamper their ggs, as much as any other breed

kick-on wasn't having a go at coloured cob owners, it is just THE example she was talking about. Maybe not the best choice of titles? I too hate people who can obtain ANY animal and just leave it, to play with it when they fancy. Unfortunately there are, always have been and always will be lazy, ignorant owners.

This is a bit of an odd post and it must seem very rude to owners of cobs, whether they are coloured cobs or not. I have had a cob in the past and now own a warmblood and a hunter type but they have all been treated the same i.e. properly! I can't believe that this is the one and only person you've met who owns a cob? You must move in very small horsey circles surely?

yes, i really don't know many cobs at all, and i was very shocked to when i challenged this woman on her husbandary(sp) cos the impression she gave was 'THAT's how you treat COB'.
Which in my eyes is NOT HOW you treat any animal, and that's why i put my nose in
This is why i posted this subject to confirm that all cob owners aren't like this LAZY moo -

Not beening rude, but if you read ALL my threads i hope this is crystal clear that i DO NOT problem with folks owning cobs and just wanted to confirm, that they do need just as much work and any type of breed.
And the reason i put that title was i wanted to to chat to coloured cob owner to prove that this woman was talking rubbish and that if i see with another horse again, that i'm will be justified in phoning up RSPCA for home inspection for her

I have read your original post and all your other comments on this thread and I'm not being rude either but your own common sense should tell you that cobs are horses just like any other horse and should be treated as such. If the woman of whom you speak has no such common sense then maybe you are justified in speaking to her about her apparent lack of knowledge but be prepared for her to ignore you. Most people don't take advice unless they have asked for it and sometimes not even then.

Errrrrrrrrrrr if you look in original post you would have seen owner has taken gg back, and yeah i may be lacking in knowledge about 'the cob type' and having never owned or care for one, yes i have a knowledge gap, but i haven't been rude about type in anyway. But the reason i got upset and did say something is cos i do know they need water, grooming, farrier and mucking out, which clearly this woman didn't
And i personnel was shocked with her attitude and yes i did want the great 'www' to confirm this, hence title

think you should read and then reply

I was replyiny to your OP. I did read everyone elses replies, as assumed they would be from other cob owners telling you. you are talking crap (in fact anyone with an ounce of common sense would have know that, without asking the question).

???????????????????????????
i don't understand your reply at all
but if you think is woman i was ranting about has good husbandary skills er????????????????
Please explain why over feeding a horse is good, having no access to water for 2 days, let shoes go lose without getting blacksmith involved plus not mucking out for 3 days.

Kick on i have a coloured cob myself, and i know you werent having a go at all coloured cob owners. I know your just frustrated at the way this cob is being treated.

My horses are my life, i spend all day everyday with them. One of my cobs has always been heavy, was told the only way i will ever see her ribs is via an xray lol.

I know how frustrating it is, at my old yard some of the YO's horses were standing in there own filth for ages, they would have half a wheelbarrow of shavings as a bed, they werent fed half the time and they were skin and bones.

Everyday all 8 of mine are groomed, exercised (the ones old enough to work) and i spend loads of time with them.

Its my opinion that if you dont have time to give the horse the attention it needs, then stick with a riding school
