follow on-anyone using soil heating cables to stop pipes freezing?

Don't know what my dad used on ours but he described it as a tape round the pipes/tape which is wired into the mains. Our tap has never frozen as far as I can remember

Horse Hero has a video showing round Chris King/Zanie Tanswell's yard, and they had heating tape on their pipes. I spent the rest of that afternoon googling it but couldn't find the solution, everything seemed to be US based. Of course that won't work in the UK due to voltage differences, so I gave up as it was too complicated for me

But would LOVE to do that here - I have been carrying buckets from the house for 3 weeks now

Absolutely brilliant. My 30 year old cable has just died and the pipe frozen as a result. Have just bought new cable to replace the dead one. I bought it through my local electrical wholesaler - took just 12 hours to have it sent. The make I have is called 'Ice Guard' Electric Water Pipe Freeze Protection' made by Nelson Easyheat Europe who are in Netherlands. www.easyheat.eu. My wholesalers got it from a company in Crawley.
Please note there are different cables depending on your pipe ie. metal, plastic etc and specify that it is water in the pipes! I have plastic pipe and have been supplied with a thin metal tape to go between cable and pipe to conduct the heat better.
