As a new(ish) owner im very interested to know what you "traditional owners " used to see as essentials in your horse first aid box, and what you still use - also what new medicinal items you swear by now
For example - how did you manage before sudocream????
lol its my number one buy!

Im asking because when i bought my horse nearly 3 years ago i bought allsorts - spent a fortune on things for mudfever etc that ive never needed!!!
All i have ever used is sudocream in teh 3 years ive owned him and so have a box full of ointments slowly going off!!!!

We used to have green oils, we still have green oils
We used to have salt, we still have salt
We used to have garlic, we still have garlic
We used to have purple spay, we still have purple spray
We used to have sheeprot foot spray, we still have sheep rot foot spray
We have added teatree oil to the list :D

Never used Sudocrem...... although hubby did the other day and apparently it stings like hell... feel guilty now putting it on my babies bum lol

We used to have Negasunt power ( for fly strike) and wound powder puffed onto wet wounds.... and purple spray!

Also kept legice nearby!

what are green oils and sheep rot spray???? what are they used for?

Green oils are great on small scrapes, work as anti-bacterial and keep the flies off.
Sheep foot rot spray is anti-biotic spray, so works well on infected small cuts.
Forgot to say that we also use udder cream as a barrier for mud fever, always have. :)
