Just a brief out line for all that didn't read the previous post...
I recently started riding a horse for someone, who IMHO hasn't got a clue. She told me that her mare was well schooled and really well behaved both on ground and ridden...
Well, turned out not to be the case, the horse (an extremely strong heavy weight cob) hadn't been ridden for 8 months, hadn't seen a farrier for nearly 10 weeks (barefoot Only needed a trim), was really bargy on the ground, and a menace to ride, rearing and spinning and ready to bolt when ever you try to leave the yard. Talking of the yard, this was a disgrace, mess everywhere, run down and generally an accident waiting to happen. Anything I suggested to the woman concerning her mare was poo-poo'd or excuses made....
.....So I finally phoned her yesterday and told her that things weren't working out (i'm not paying to put my life in danger any more), and she told me that she thought this was going to happen (probably because I went to the yard on monday and removed all of my belongings - hat, boots jackets etc - form the tack shed), but she said that it was ok because she had some people coming to have lessons on her this week, so she would still be ridden.
Well now I'm a bit angry TBH. Was she even going to tell me that she had arranged other people to come and ride her too. I know that it is her horse at the end of the day, but I was paying for most of her costs. I would have out of common couertesy(??) if anything. Plus this mare is seriously unfit, overweight and in desperate need of a good farrier.
I don't know where she going to be 'teaching' these people, the sand school is overgrown with weeds and needs de-stoning? I also hope that she has got really good insurance (doubtful if there is any). That horse is not a novice ride by any means. I've ridden some nightmare horses in the last 25 years, and usually with good results, but never have I felt that unsafe. Her mare is so strong, that its a real struggle to control her in a jointed pelham and standing martingale.
Do you think that my feelings are unjust, am I just being over sensitive, because things didn't work out for me??
