Do you prebook your farrier's next visit? i.e. After my farrier has shoed my horses I book him in for the next appointment there and then, that way I know they will get done and he will be about it do them.
My boss how ever just rings at the start of the week saying such and such needs doing. And hopes they can be fitted in.

I always book in in advance - every 7 weeks in winter and every 6 weeks in summer - but we see him every 3/4 weeks as he comes to two lots of horses So 5 one visit and 6 the next. but if I need him urgently he will fit us in within 48 hours.

I always make sure I am around, all the horses are in and waiting, all feet picked out and coffee available on tap. And make sure everyone has got their cheques for him.

we have a routine farrier visit, every single thursday he comes. Mainly because it's a big RS yard and we always have horses to do.

Mine books himself in as I am never there! He knows my horse needs doing every 5 weeks, so he writes the date and time on my receipt and leaves that for me. Works well.

I've always booked in ahead of time, that wasy I know exactly where I stand and I their feet are always looking good. However, at the last yard, she (female farrier) refused to book in ahead and I could NEVER get hold of her!! Drove me insane!! I'd just get a told by by old YO that farrier would be there in say, 5 days time, and would do mine too - which then prompted a mad scramble and panick to get the time off from work!!

Now it is back to how I like it! H was done last Tuesday and will be done again - along with the others, on March 31st! My boss knows this already and all is well and happy!

Usually book in when he has finished shoeing/trimming. He tells me when they need doing and we organise when I am going to book my day off.
