Why not get a fly mask and adapt it so he can see out the good eye side.

Get your vet out! That sounds like an abscess, if it heals over while there's still pus inside it will just burst again and keep re infecting. Vet will probably tell you to flush with dilute hibiscrub but get the vet.

Have you heard of opsite? (Assuming it still exists), it is like a fake skin layer (for humans) and did the trick on my horse when he fell over and took all the flesh out of his orbit, I think you can get it in as big a sheet as you like, it used to have green squares on the backing layer. Opsite can be obtained in a number of forms and is easy to get hold of.

I had a pony with cancer many years ago. Any bump or injury resulted in an eruption that seemed like an abcess. Sorry to be negative, but I would be back onto the vet and keep checking on it.

I had a horse with a cancerous tumour on his side. He did the same - knocked the scab off the top regularly and pus would come out. I hosed it and kept it clean and applied yellow fly cream. Dressing it irritated him and he pulled them off and then it was exposed again.

The middle of a tumour is not well supplied with blood vessels so the tissue does die off and it can appear like an abcess.
