Right, not meaning to offend anyone at all, but i can't be the only one not 100% happy with my weight.
the prospect of Eventing again, and having bought a TB mare, made me start dieting properly last autumn. I was about 11 stone 4 at the time. at 5'10", i looked alright, but i wasn't the weight i wanted to be, or the shape, to put it mildly!
the weight shifted very slowly, i still wasn't happy, and eventually i bought the IPD book (Neris and India's Idiot-Proof Diet).
these two ladies lost 5 stone EACH in a year, and have kept it off for 3 years and counting. losing it's not the hardest bit, it's not relapsing and sticking it all back on again, obviously!
i have now done it for 4 1/2 weeks, and i am below 10 stone for the first time since 1995, and, amazingly, really really enjoying it. the weight is still coming off, i have tons of energy, i feel great, i don't want to cheat at all (miraculously!), my saddlebag thighs and childbearing hips are shrinking, and i am not dreading the prospect of walking around in cream jodhs all day again.

so, if anyone else is in the same boat as me, i really really can't recommend it highly enough. it's easy, it doesn't make you feel deprived all the time, there's a very VERY supportive forum (i'm not the only one from here who posts on there...!)
PM me for more deets if anyone's got more questions. i just feel so fab and positive about it, i wanted to share!

I have tried this diet and it is just a version of the atkins diet which to be honest I don't believe is that healthy. I did love eating salami and cream though (not together)

if you read up on it, it's actually very healthy. have a look at:

i've done Atkins in the past... this works much better for me. it deals with the headstuff, why we overeat etc, very effectively.
there seem to be a lot of widely-believed things to do with food and dieting that are actually not correct, unfortunately.

cool, had you already ordered them?
put it this way, before i started, my target weight was 10 stone. now it's 9 stone. it feels totally doable now, before, it felt like it would be a miracle to get below 10 stone, i was slowly putting on a pound or two a year...
if i get my teenage figure back, i'll be the happiest bunny about...

I had a flick through this in a bookshop and I'm really not convinced. For one thing it gives a long list of supplements to take which should not be needed if you have a healthy, balanced diet.

That sounds just what I need, I have been steadliy putting on weight since having Rachel and I really need to lose 3 stone

I am the heaviest I've ever been (other than when I was pregnant, but I'm only 1 stone off that

Im on it as kerelli knows and have lost 3 stone in a year...

as for the healthy aspect there are AS MANY reviews that say it is healthy, as there are reviews that say its not!!

Whats unhealthy about mountains of fresh veg, meat and fish, with not a processed meal in sight????

Cheapest place to by the book is Play.com I think!

haniki, unless you LOVE eggs and cheese, it's not easy for veggies. i was veggie when i did atkins, which is fairly similar, and it was very hard.
i only eat Freedom Foods, animals that have had a good life etc etc, so i'm a picky ex-veggie, if that makes sense! i won't eat salami etc as i have no idea of the welfare of the animals, for e.g.
sunflower, i'm taking the vitamins etc (just normal multivits and B vits) because obv it isn't a normal balanced diet at first. it's based around lots of green leafy veg, other veg, proteins, and good fats. the supplements don't have to cost ££s, and tbh i'm so happy with how it's working, i'm happy to take them.

I have lost two stone over the last year doing sort of Low GI, well based on that diet. It has suited me really well and I don't follow it to the letter, but I seem to be stuck. Maybe I need to try something different to give my system a kickstart.

I did the Atkins a couple of years ago which did work really well for me but after a while I got really shaky. However, this is the first time I have got a good chunk of weight off for years. I have got a foal coming and I want to keep losing weight so I won't feel worried about being too heavy for the younster when it comes to riding.

Ohhhh not seen this one before? I need to lose about 3 stone, from 11 back down to 8. My BMI is 27

Horse girl yes it does send your body into a state of ketosis, which burns FAT... your body DOES NOT eat itself (well except the fat which is what we want!!) Its also not forever there are stages on this diet where you indroduce fruit and good carbs. the health benefits of being slimmer massively outweigh the minor (if any) risks of being in MILD ketosis.

Africans and tribes everywhere live in a permanent state of ketosis and they are fit and healthy, much fitter than the western world anyway, they rarely die of heart diseae and the like as they are never fat!!

effervescent its a low carb diet, but much less strict than atkins, deals with the reasons why people over eat aswell as being presented in a very friendly format.

Ok will give it a go - am finding it so hard to shift the weight as I progress through my 40s - whilst I do have weight carrying horses, would like to shift a stone at least.

I hate those people who give up booze and sweets and drop a stone in a month - tried it for 6 weeks and didn't drop a pound so went back to my red wine - there again, didn't put more on - perhaps I am wierd.

It sends your body into a state of ketosis, basically it starts eating itself.

This worries me. Ketosis is a dangerous state for your body to be in.
