Someone once told me that soaked hay is good for helping colic and pushing things through the system (so to speak) is this a loada twoddle or is there some sense in it? personally i wouldnt like the idea of mine eating anything more when shes colicy but havnt been in that situation before. luckily she seems to have a lead stomach!

I've never heard of that before. I don't see how it would help - maybe it depends on what's causing the colic but without a vets advice I wouldn't want to feed anything other than a bran mash.

Depends on the type of colic. Soaked hay would have the advantage of ensuring horsey didn't get dehydrated. And they have to eat again sometime.

i was told to feed some (not lots!) sugar beet mixed with oil to help, i did try this on an old pony of mine and it worked a treat! helped her shift things on!!, was told that the sugar beet is to encourage the horse to take the oil and thats why you dont use a lot, i just used loads of the water!!........thank god for speedy beet!!!
