Following on from my reply in that thread....still at work and the abandoned dog scenario continues
crazy.gif

I receive another call...from a lady...stating she has untied the dog and taken it home...what should she do?
The police never arrived by the way
crazy.gif
mad.gif

The lady phoned the POLICE....who told her to contact the local authority...WTF....it's 12.30 midnight...
crazy.gif

I then phoned the RSPCA, as the lady was getting an answering service....and I explained the situation.....THEY SAID....."if the local authority is closed"...the dog...!!WOULD HAVE TO STAY TIED UP UNTIL IT OPENED!! WTF...Im shouting...my caps lock is not stuck
mad.gif

"Are you joking"...I said
shocked.gif
....she said...NO...."it's not injured it will be ok"
Till monday [****] morning
crazy.gif
Word fail me

Did you expect anything else from them, be honest?!

I know, it's appalling but everyone knows if you work for them, you can go home at 5 on a Friday and not come back until Monday morning; animals don't mind waiting that long to be rescued, why should they, they should be thankful that somebody might deign to think about them on Tuesday and then decide they're not a priority.

Thank goodness for the nice lady; I hope dog gets settled soon.

Well...no I was not shocked at their "nowt we can do attitude" more the statement of Its ok to leave it till the appropriate authority can deal with it
crazy.gif

I have dealt with the RSPCA in a close capacity and know they are useless.

I actually had to make arrangements for the dog to be housed(not my job) but I could not ignore it
crazy.gif
...as the lady could not keep it....just maddens me that the legislation is a farce
mad.gif

Not surprised really at the RSPCA but would have thought they might have improved with some of the bad publicity they have had recently. Presumably the weather forecast for your area was as bad as for the rest of us last night, how on earth could they advocate leaving the poor thing overnight. Perhaps their response could be leaked ot a local paper!

I thought of situations like that the second |I read the link....LA have been useless for years so giving them sole responsability for stray dogs wasnt a good move
crazy.gif

My mother ended up with her second dog in much the same way you came across that one last night.
Stray tied up,no food/water except what passers by dropped and no-one(not one rescue, not the police or LA) would take the poor girl in
frown.gif
So she came home and stayed
smile.gif
That was before R was born so about 4 years ago.
No pics but she is the dog the lovely RSPCA tried to prosicute me over,LMAO!
YES she was skin and bone, but by the time they saw her she had put on a lot of weight the right way,she was in such bad condition getting her to a healthy weight was going to take a while not helped by the silly mare not understanding about dog food(she would watch the yorkie eat, pick some up then spit it out again looking confused
blush.gif
understood what scraps were though
smirk.gif
).

Not got any pics of her on pc but when she came she looked like a poorly put together stick thin BSD.She still looks badly put together but is healthy and happy now
smile.gif

Sorry,rambled

IMO,stray dogs should be the responsability of the LA and dog wardens, but only when they are 24 hours a day and can do the job properly!

Yep...thtas the whole point...how the hell can they take responsibility when they are not even in service..FFS
crazy.gif
mad.gif

Lucky that little dog landed with you then...under these new rules u woud be obliged to hand it over
crazy.gif
mad.gif
...which in turn is very worrying
frown.gif

And what about dogs with broken legs likethe one handed to my work...do they expect them to be fixed, rehabilitated and then handed over....yeah right
smirk.gif
tongue.gif

Ps Murphysminder...yep...the weather here last night was horrid, freezing, windy and snowing....but hey...the dog was not injured...so that ok

It's disgusting and heartbreaking isnt it?
I understand completly when a resue turns a dog away, only so much space and they are a charity trying to help.
LA *should* be the place to turn to,but are about as much use as a chocolate toaster
mad.gif

The reforms to the animal wellfare act were a step in the right direction but fall a long way short of what animal lovers wanted.
The dog warden service needs to be 24/7,sadly people who dump dogs are not always considerate enough to do it between 9 and 5 on a weekday and has to be properly funded.
Anything a charity can do on top is wonderfull, but its a digusting situation that we have to rely on them to do the job.

I really hate to admit this and very rarely do but I work for the police on the front desk. This new legislation is obviously now postered in my station but I dread the day (and it will come soon) when someone brings in a stray dog and I will have to just turn them away, much to their disgust and I will feel awful. We live in a very rural area and the dog warden is part time and works from an office 25 miles away. However, as a stop gap, all stray dogs are taken to a local kennels, I will just have to hope that anyone who finds a stray dog will be willing to take it there.
