And her breeding

Funny enough I dont think her dam would have passed any grading, yet her daughter was one of the most honest horses you could wish to meet. I could ride her down the A5 she was that quiet. As soon as you dismounted she would switch off at a competition, she never wasted any energy. She won rosettes in the show ring as well as dressage, but it was jumping that she loved the most.

So who else has a superstar Arab, PB or AA?

As we are now talking about PBs as well

George is half Arab!

Can you tell I am a campaigner to dispell the myth that Arabs can't jump, infact on the continent thay are very commonly found in the breeding of their jumping ponies, I know these are all stallion but if its as common as this to have Arab blood in the jumping pony stallions, imagine how many mares and gelding there is with Arab blood! I am hoping to use Aron N at some point on one of my pony mares!

HG dont think it has much to do with the horse but the person owning them. I was forever hearing, oh he wont go through water, Arabs hate water! I think peoples attitudes have taken longer to change then the change around over coloureds. When they ran the Masterlock programme my mare beat a fair few WB's. They held it at Pat Thorns Gt Brickhill which was right next door to the yard we were at. My mare was the smallest at 15.2 & we even had the Broadstone stud horses there. I have to say I was so nervous I was sick, much to the amusment of my better half! I think if I had known how well she had scored in the 1st half I would have felt more confident going into the jumping section. If circumstances had not changed she would have gone affliliated, but the new owner never did anything much with her after the first year.

going form pretty little show off..

My 15.1hh anglo-arab was 21 on 2nd June this year, I've had him since he was six. In that time we have beaten Zara Phillips (when we were at pony club!), beaten professional show jumpers including a horse sold from the Edgars yard for 30k the week before, been on fun rides & jumped 3'6" solid timber jumps, ridden up & down impossibly steep hills in the cotswolds (at all paces!), won showing, dressage, gymkhana (fox used to be a musical sack specialist & would find me a sack while I dismounted each time the music stopped!) and had a fantastic time doing it all. I could never have dreamt of finding such a versatile, talented fun little horse before I met the Fox. As a result, I have now put my little grey arab mare in foal to a rather nice thoroughbred stallion..... Roll on July next year!

Great pics everyone!

I've posted these before, but any excuse... 13.2h, pure bred arab mare, competed senior BSJA (Even if I did have to say she was 14 hands!) and placed at the SEIB XC Championships. Wish I'd known more when I had her, she could've been an FEI pony.

Here pedigree is here.

God wish I was not such an anorake at times!! Shaab your mare is related as Indian Magic sired Scindian Magic who at 16hh was considered oversized by Arab purests. Indian Magic appeared in both the sire & grnd sire of the dam for my mare. Also there is Grojec in this breeding & Glenn's. Lady Wentwoth was instrumental in trying to breed the Arab above the accepted 14.2. As HG pointed out some of the if not the best AA's are French bred.

Thanks all that posted, it is so nice to see Arabs, PB's & AA's showing what they are capable of.

I've had quite a few! And probably a few who had a drop in them but not that I knew about. Here's the ones I know about:

Beauty - super star 14hh FEI event pony, now retired in Blegium (her and Ousbek, now that would have been something HG)

BeautyIndoorChamps.jpg

Deco - advanced eventer, now my broodmare! She is SF, but 3 grandparents are AA, so Missy has a fair bit in her too as Mill Law is also one eighth arab:

DecoAldon05.jpg

And William, my homebred 6yo Novice eventer! His dad, Tracy X, was an Anglo Arab approved into the BWP studbook:

A couple of others I rode that I think might have had some arab in:

Auteuil, an FEI pony I rode for owners for a season:

Schivago, a lovely mad old horse I rode at a few events for his owners:

Ilk des Jamets, another one belonging to owners in Belgium, passed away at 8 unfortunately:

wow - love your Arabs tigers-eye - Deco especially looks super!

Thanks for the Georgie-pics HG - he is gorgeous!

Great to see all these talented Arabs and PBAs. I'm trying to find some more pics of my eventing Arab stally General Lee Gold - only have this one at the moment:

Did anyone read the article in H&H about Tamarillo a couple of weeks ago? W F-P admits that he initially thought 'I can't be seen riding an Arab'!!! V glad he changed his mind about that!

So, are there particular bloodlines within the Arab which convey jumping ability?

Is it just a co-incidence that General Lee Gold is related to Mill Law?

And what do you look for, in choosing a performance Arab sire / dam?

I think the Arab temperament plays a part in this, to be honest; they often seem very "pro-human" and interested in what we do, willing to be part of the team, if you like.

Ironically, I got General Lee Gold cheap because of his jumping ability!

He was 4 years old, unbroken, living on a small Arab stud in Anglesey, and driving his owners nuts cos he kept jumping out of their fields (big stone walls - I measured one at 4ft6!) and going off roaming around looking for mares and upsetting the sheep...

They didn't have a field that would hold him, so they were having to keep him in - and of course he was getting bored and fractious (when I arrived to view him, he was banging and kicking and generally trashing his stable).

Great, I thought, he can jump! Handed over a cheque for £600, and he was mine. My first horse - an unbacked, restless, antsy, noisy 4yo Arab stallion. Sensible choice for a novice owner, eh?
crazy.gif
(Oh, to be that young and naive and stupid again - it was such fun!

)

But he really did have one helluva jump. And once he started proper work he was no longer bored and calmed down considerably - although it was always hard to find fencing high enough to keep him in.

Sorry - got sidetracked a bit there. Re the question of jumping/performance bloodlines - most Arab people say that Crabbet/Old English lines are best for performance, although to some extent I think this may be a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy: because Crabbet/OEs have this reputation, people who are keen on jumping/performance tend to choose these lines, and so they are the ones that get trained and ridden and competed, further enhancing their reputation, and so on.

There are certainly Arabs from many different bloodlines who have done well in jumping and other disciplines. The Vlacq stud which specializes in performance Arabs and part-breds was originally based on Babson-Egyptian lines, I think - their foundation stally was a grandson of The Shah. The Biddesden Stud (home of Tamarillo, etc.) Arabs are a mix of OE and Spanish/Egyptian lines, through Dhruv, a son of El Shaklan.

Polish and Russian lines have also produced some good athletes - and then there are the French-bred Arabs such as HG's Ousbek....

So no, I don't think any particular bloodlines have a monopoly on jumping ability - it's more down to the owners and what they choose to do with their Arabs. And expectations: if you assume that an Arab will have jumping ability, and train it properly, as you would any other potential eventer/show-jumper/hunter - then hey, it will probably jump as well as any other horse!

Oooh this is an exciting thread to read, my mare is currently in Foal to Mill Law, the arab can add a great mix to the traditional TB, ive seen some "nutty" ones and some fab ones, so I hope it adds a nice line to my mares offspring

I've put up what the "baby" pedigree will be (the one thing I wish I could find it is my mares dam to complete the line)

Its here http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/index.ph...l_font=1&l=

Perhaps I will look at Mill Law next time, especially with names like Narobi, Kenya, Mobasa. Makes me wonder if the breeder of East Africa also bred Mobasa. I have heard a lot of good things about Mill Law. Umm, I wonder, mind you I think I will be shot if I use Mo just yet, will have to wait I think until one of the boys are under saddle. I was born in Narobi so perhaps it could be called Narobi Magic.....
