Following on from breed thread...what 'type' of person owns arabs then?

This is my baby arab gelding... excuse the mane! I didn't do it!!! He is only just being backed, but I loose school and lunge him over jumps and wow does he jump! Hopefully once I'm sitting on him we can do some proper jumping in the future, he really seems to enjoy it. I don't think I'm a stereotypical arab owner, never done inhand showing in my life (although would like to try), also own a warmblood and a friesian and spend most my time covered in horse poo!

Having been captivated by the Arabian breed for over 35 years, I can honestly say that real horsemen never own an Arabian, it owns you! It will own you heart and soul and never let you go if you show it trust, kindness, sensitivity and can match its intelligence. If you can look into the deep, liquid pools of its eyes it will draw you into its soul, but not everyone has that gift. It will repay you a thousandfold if you have the ability to 'connect' and will do everything you ask. The Arabian is not for everyone and everyone is not for the Arabian but we should celebrate life's diversity and not be influenced by misinformation and prejudice. I feel honoured that the majestic and noble Arabian horse has allowed me to share my life with it and be mesmerised by its history and the overwhelming influence it has had on horse breeds throughout the world. It has shaped my life and made me the better person that I am because it has taught me the true meaning of the words humility, passion, commitment, trust, awe and humanity. I am open minded and I am still learning. I am far from being stereotypical anything but I know I understand the Arabian and it understands me.

I'm an Arab owner - or should I say I'm owned by an Arab. My lovely mare Chlio. We've been together for just over a year now and I reckon we're getting the measure of each other. I'm not a stereotypical Arab owner that I've been reading about on here - young, slim, red lipstick wearing barbie look-alike! However, I am a bit nuttie and I do drive a nice car! And I do Endurance! She's also proving to be a good little jumper especially whilst out hacking when we pop over a few fallen tress or logs. She has the most lovely nature, very gentle and sweet. No, Arabs are not for everyone but I am not for every horse, but I stil love them all.

I've been"owned" by 3 different Arabs over many years and they have all been the best hunters and the best cattle horses I've had, ever! I am including all sorts of crossbreds here. Trouble is, mine would either have brilliant clear showjumping days, or ditch me at the first jump first round. Maybe I should have worn lipstick!! :)

Hmmm.... I'm not neurotic, slim, petite, Barbie-like in any way, or well dressed, nor do I wear lipstick of any color.

Even so, I've owned Arabs and am now grandmother to a half-Arab.

It is odd isn't it, how so many stereotypes are attached to Arabs and the people who own them? I mean, people have impressions about a lot of breeds but the ones about Arabs are extreme. I think they're an amazing breed - tough, smart, loyal and beautiful.

My stereotype of arab owners/riders are thin, pretty, petite people. See not a bad stereotype I have. Oh and i'm not an arab owner. Lol!

1) Thin - yes because I wage a losing battle to put weight on
2) Pretty - hmmmm
3) Petite - see 1.

I have owned arabs for 20 years or so now, and have met every build, type and temperament of person going who also own/enjoy them. No stereotype anymore than there is for those who like warmbloods/natives/cobs etc as far as I have noticed to be honest:)
