as posted a few days ago, pony has awful front feet, they keep crumbling around the nails which then come loose, fall out and he loses a shoe, we have now lost his other front one and its left a massive hole between his hoof wall and his sole (white line bit?) I will go back up tomorrow and take some photos but I am panicking that an infection could get up there? farrier is coming Wednesday and said he could repair with glue and filler, eek, but I am inclined to give him four weeks off, continue with Naf pro-feet, and get some Kevin Bacon hoof stuff to dress it with, what should I do about the hole in the mean time? he seems sound at the moment but am half expecting to go up tomorrow and find him hopping lame, just to add he has really good frogs and lovely firm soles although a little dry, his back feet are perfect, no issues at all!
any advice would be so welcome

It might be worth looking at the red horse products - artimud and hoof stuff are for different types of holes!

IME Back feet often do tend to be better with fewer issues so you do need to work for the fronts. If it is happening regularly then perhaps a diet overhaul and a break from shoes using boots so you get the chance to start afresh so to speak?

I have no idea what he is crossed with, must get a picture :) farrier came out today and reshod on front, I asked whether I should just let him be for a few weeks but he said no need, he had to nail quite high, wasn't overly concerned about the cracking and flaking, he said the weather wasn't helping and he had seen a lot of it in others, plastered his hooves in Kevin Bacon's which I will continue with religiously and see how he goes, will leave him a few days to let the feet settle and for the good stuff to do its job then gentle hacking, if these break away and come off its definite rest and hoof boots! I have changed his balancer today, he is on a feed of fast fibre, handful of Healthy hooves, Naf Pro Feet supplement and a balancer once a day, out 24/7 on limited grass and topped up with good quality hay as he is a good doer, any other feed or supplement suggestions? thank you :)

Most people would swerve NAf pro feet as it is not high in minerals ........... try pro earth products which are.
