Will continue to have someone walking with me but would it work having that person leading fatboy with a lead rope? He will walk on if someone holds onto his reins! Don't want to fight him as he'll win (16.3hh shire x)

My boy plants himself, I would never personally have someone attached with a leadrope as it would create more problems when you try to eventually go without them as its not just a case of letting go, they have to unclip and its a faff etc. Mines a 17hh stockier warmblood so feel your pain!!

I have now got to the stage where we need no leader and all it takes is a touch with a whip (more than a touch and i will more than likely end up on the floor) to remind him who is boss and he will go foward :). Could you do any groundwork with him as Im not into natural horsemanship or anything but my boy can be nervous and I have found making him trust me more on the ground and making sure I am the boss gives him the confidence to walk on without me - and its given him better manners!! :)

I think just to have someone walk beside him will work, not to hold reins, just means you have to push him a little bit harder with your heels and voice. but the person on the ground gives you and horse confidence at the moment to build on, which I think you will.:D:D:D:D
