So I tried a few more combinations of bits for my double last night and madam is still sticking her tongue out the side of her mouth

Put her back in her snaffle and she was as good as gold. I have a Novice and Elementary test next week and I am going to have to go in her snaffle. Anyways, here is a vid of her in her snaffle, do you think she looks ok for an Elementary in it?

Herbs is doig his first Ele at Crofton this saturday and will be in a snaffle. Loads still are at this level. In fact I think it reflects better if you are still in a snaffle at this level but that's just my opinion!

You both look good in that video, who is the trainer?

I know it's not a problem really her being in a snaffle, it's just a shame as she can go very nicely in her double and has done a few elementaries in it and has done reasonably well

I can just get her slightly softer in the double, but hey ho.

Trainer is Nicky Cross, she's not my trainer it was for RC team

She was very good though.
 
Yep and she went very nicely in it for months, did a couple of tests in, got placed and points, I though the problem was sorted, then she started with the tongue. Don't get me wrong it's not flapping right out, but just poking a bit to the side and it doesn't feel like she's evadiong me as I have to look in the mirror or lean forward to see if she's doing it.

They are very expensive so would try and test a set before you buy but have you tried the Sprenger double bits?
My horse use to look like he was biting his tongue in the first set I tried but these seem to be smaller and not so harsh in the mouth.
I ordered a set from Germany few months ago (£265) but worth every penny and he loves them!
 
She's in a Spenger bradoon and was originally in a Sprenger Weymouth (I think it was called DC Special for tongue relief) no joy I am afraid.

Could it be that this has just become a habit? As simple as "lots of metal in my mouth = tongue out?" I don't think this line of thinking will help cure the problem but it could save you a fortune in new bits

I know absolutely nothing about Dressage in any shape or form but if you were Showing and needed to wear a Double Rein, I would suggest a Pelham of some description. I don't know if you are allowed to wear these in a Dressage Arena? My mare had quite a small mouth and could not cope with double bits and she also learnt to lean on the double. I bought a Sam Marsh Pelham and it changed my life. The mare came up into my hand, the back end came under and it was perfect.

Any particular reason why not?
Perhaps BD need to amend their Rules as there are a serious amount of horses out there with small mouths - who just cannot wear a Double Bridle. Always worth a try - especially if there are enough of you BD people who feel strongly enough about this subject. Good luck.
