Will I be able to find a little lory, under 3.5 tonnes, that will take B (16.2hh WB), Berry (15hh cob) and Hector (WBxTB yrlg, currently about 15hh).

Well I reckon you are all gonna say an Emphatic NO, so my next questions are:

1. How much will I get for an 'R' reg, very low milage Fourtrack?

2. How much will it cost for me to do a lorry test?

3. How much should I think about spending on a lorry under 7.5 tonnes?

My trailer is virtually new, so I know I won't have lost much on that.

Sorry, no. Been doing loads of research recnetly and it's dificult to find one with a payload to take more than one horse...

No idea abouth the 7.5 tonne costs. Sorry!

I looked into a master for my 16,2 and 17 h and could do weight at a push but not put me or tack in the lorry!!

Fourtrak- hmmm, used to live next door to a daihatsu garage but not sure. 4k? Just a guess!

Lorry test, if same price as trailer is about 100 plus lessons!

Friend is buying a 7.5- looked at a few and decided got to spend 10k to get a decent chassis and back.

With all the new regs coming in 7.5 tonners are soon going to be worthless. Think youd be stretching it to get those 3 on a 7.5 limit anyway.
Id buy a 3.5 ton and only take 2 at a time, or take your HGV. Think the HGV license is about £1000.
 
Have no idea about how much a lorry test would be.
NO WAY would you be able to travel 3 on a 3.5 tonne.
7.5ton lorries can start at around £3k for a real beat up - not sure how long it would last etc.
I would say for your Fourtrack around £2.5 - £3k?

Just did a search on google R reg vehicles are going for around that mark. Put it in for £4k and see what you get.

Nope you are one of us old and lucky ones you can drive a 7.5 tonne lorry no extra test required.

If you passed you test before 1 Jan 1997 you can already drive a 7.5 tonne lorry and tow and trailer without passing a test.

I can drive categories B, BE, C1, C1E, D1, D1E and f k l n p. C1 looks like a large camper van in the diagram thingy!

Nope like me you can drive a 7.5 tonne on a normal license

I have to be just about the BLONDEST person in the universe!!! Earlier this year I discover that I can tow a trailer without doing the test - it having been an issue with jobs I have been for too!! NOW I discover I can drive upto 7.5 tonnes *slaps hand off head and crawls under stone*

Don't know model of your Fourtak but middle of the range on on an R plate books at £2800 in good condition to sell privaty or £2400 to trade in.

Is there a definitive yes/no about these 7.5t rules as I've called VOSA and the training centres and asked at the Test Centre and nobody knows anything about them!?

If you are both careful and lucky you can buy cheapo and reliable 7.5 tonners. Mine was £1100 two years ago and has let me down once in the time! You do need to watch the unladen weight though - for instance in mine you'd be ok with your horses and tack but in more fancy ones you'd be overweight.
 
No, you would be lucky to put two in a 3.5 tonne. I have just bought one, but I will only be travelling one horse, plus tack, equipment and me, OH and dog! That would probably be pushing the weight limits.

Sorry, going to jump in as well....what are these new 7.5tonne rules??
I just bought one for £3500, its old but been ok so far. You couldn't put those three on it though, weight wise.
I took my HGV a couple of weeks ago, has cost nearly £1500 in total due to a mess up with my photocard licence which got stolen the week before my test then they wouldn't let me take test so lost my money on that and had to rebook...but anyway,thats another story! Passed it now, but haven't heard about new 7.5 ton rules....?
