Following on from my OMG what have I bought thread!!

Hey all,

I posted a few days ago asking if anyone had bought a horse and then thought OMG what have I gone and done, the basic jist was with her being a DWB, I felt out of my depth and buying her for my daughter for the future I felt was a complete moment of madness.
Anyway the general consensus on here was keep her, dont sell and see how things are when she's 4 which is when I plan to have her professionally backed. She's currently 2 and a half, and is a real nice girl.

Anyway I had decided to put her on the market and see what happens, to keep an open mind - I believe in Fate so if she's meant to stay she will, if she's meant to go then she'll sell.
So I decided to get some new pictures this weekend, now looking at them, I just think how could I sell her, she's such a sweet looking girl. I dont think I can, I just look at them big brown eyes and remember why I took such a shine to her in the first place, even though she's was a stragly, scruffy looking rag bag at the age of 2 when buying her lol x
The future plans are Riding club with her, so bit of all sorts for her and my daughter, she should finish off at 16-16.1hh so not to big for a teenager.

I wanted to show you some pics, I keep asking for advise on this girl, so thought maybe it would be nice to see who we're talking about. She looks to sweet to be a horror heh? God I hope so :D

Never mind how sweet she looks, she's a VERY nice sort!!

Give her a couple of years to bulk up and you'll have a nice junior eventer on your hands, you'd be mad to let her go!
 
Aww thanks guys for your kind words :)

I know when its your own horse, you can't help but be biased, but I do think she's beautiful, but then all of my horses are beautiful to me :D
 
You are not being biased thinking she is beautiful, she is :)

Bays are not my favourite, but I would settle for bay if she looked like her :D

I had a look at the other thread you mention, you have plenty of time to get your head around her being a warmblood, they aren't all higly strung and some are really lovely gentle types.

She's 15.2hh at present, to make 16.1hh or there abouts.

Do these names mean anything to you: Umenno, Wellington, Oklund, Holland, Samber, Aram, Nimmerdor - her sire, gransires and great gransires.
Her Dam is Viona, Scottish free jumping Champion in 2005, Oklund was her sire.

I'm not overly clued up on breeding although I am learning, I know she's a fair few big names in her pedigree, Concorde is also there being the sire of Holland.
 
Gosh, I'm just a happy hacker with no knowledge of competing and little on confo but I have to say she looks a darling... a really sweet face and a kind eye. Keep her and see how you feel in the spring.... (and I bet she stays!! :D)
 
A nice looking horse - what did you have on her in the first photo? Noseband wise??
I expect that you paid about £250 max for her, which will be a bargain in years to come - as long as you chuck her out for a year (handle as little as poss) and then get her professionally broken at 3, could be a world beater - nice colour as well!!
 
I have to say that they are not particularly good photos - please square on showing all
legs square or just off square and rear on and front on would give me more idea....

Legs full square or just off helps.

She has a be nice head collar on and an ordinary head collar, she's young and I feel safer with the be nice :D
She's already been "chucked out" for 6 months since buying her, and will remain this way for a good while yet as I dont plan to have her backed until she is 4 - no hurry :D

As for "I expect that you paid about £250 max for her"..................I wish!!
I bought her the day she turned 2, if you know of anywhere in the UK where you can buy a healthy DWB with her bloodlines for £250.00 on their second birthday let me know because I'll have a couple more lol :D:D:D:D:D:D

The few pics I posted were just ones I liked of her, I wasn't thinking of conformation when posting a few pics of the horse I've been asking for advise on.
Good to know for the future though x

I have had two trips away this year - one to Ireland and one to the Netherlands......In Ireland the recession was very noticible - and I spotted very few horses turned out in fields - in the NL - I went from Amsterdam to Northern NL via 3 trains and a taxi - and saw masses of horse from big to small. Ireland is really struggling - NL not yet- but will, inevitably.

I know Ireland is struggling big time, not just with sports horses but any horse/pony. Anything of quality is being snapped up by dealers and shipped over to England and Scotland and sold for decent money.
Young well bred horses are still selling for decent money in Scotland, but not even half of what they were selling for 3-4 years ago. This horse was bred in Scotland and not shipped in, hence no £250 bargain lol x

She was worth every penny as she's for my daughter, knowing if I travelled Ireland or Europe and I could have picked up equal quality for much less doesn't bother me, by the time you add on the cost of the trips and shipping the horse to where you want, have you really got that much of a bargain?

This is her as a baby, her breeder (Solaris sports horses) produces quality foals, and they dont come cheap, they've currently several all with price tags of thousands, and they do sell, they have sold quite a lot over recent years and I know of other breeders who have paid figures like 8k for weanlings from them!! :D

I have freinds who are selling lovely TB's for far less than the stud fees - we are in a recesssion, where the market will dictate what these horses are worth......sadly!
 
You are right....we are indeed in a recession. That said, quality animals will always command a far higher price than the snottier end of the market.
She looks a lovely animal OP, your daughter is a very lucky girl!

Snottier end of the market....???!! What are you talking about - these are horses that are making £5K plus and not making their stud fees - snotty would be a happy hacker who puts some dire horse to a warm blood stallion - keeps it for 3 years and then wants £K's for it having put in no effort at all........Very grumpy at this post!!!
 
Don't know how I came across this but we have had 3 by Oklund, all amazing jumpers. 8 yr old now jumping 1.50, look up Oklund on you tube, he has some awesome offspring. Hope yours is good!:)
 
She looks lovely. If it's any consolation a friend's WB was a handful on the ground before backed although under she's always been a saint.
