I got to the yard this morning and his foot felt warm and he obviously was in some discomfort as he didn't want to weight bear on it. I put some gamgee on his hoof vetwrapped it and then cover all with duct tape, just to get him out as it was so lovely.

He was ok walking on grass but as soon as we hit harder ground he really struggled, been up to get him in and repeated the struggle. I have taken all the wrapping off.

I have to ring this new farrier monday morning to arrange a day for this coming week, but my questions are:

A) would it be better if I wrapped his foot 24/7.

B) Would it be better if he was stabled 24/7.

C) I have some boots to try would he be ok turned out in these for a few hours each day, I don't think he'll be running around any where.

D) Is there anything else I can be doing, cos I'm absolute hell to live with at the mo, because I am worrying about doing the wrong thing.

Many Thanks

I'm sorry, but if my horse wouldn't weight bear in the stable or in the field and the foot was warm, I would be calling my vet. Could be an abcess. Sounds more than just hasn't got a shoe on and is a bit foot sore. I'd be wanting painkillers regardless.

i'd turn him out in a hoof boot for a few hours if you've got one. It would be a bit unlucky to have an abscess at the same time as a pulled shoe. i take if you've checked he's not walked on the nails? (one of mine punctured his sole walking on a pulled shoe) If he's not sound with a hoof boot then I'd call vet.
