I may try showing my boy but wondered what you guys think??!! Do you think that he could possibly do some County level showing and if so, what classes?? I was thinking of pre veteran as he is 15 but wondered if he could do a RH class or something else?? He is a 16.2hh pink papered WB.

Thanks in advance :-)

Definitely show him in veteran classes he should do well.
County level RH classes are very competitive and he would need a lot of work to get him to the standard required. At 15 his legs may be showing some wear and this would go against him, most horses shown at county level are fairly young.
I would take him out to some local shows and see how you do,he may be more of a LW hunter, its a shame he wont jump in the ring as WH would also be suitable.
Some shows also have classes for RC horses.
Get out and about and have some fun with him.

Thanks - what kind of work do you think he will need?? I know he needs more topline and that his bottom needs musceling up but he has only recently come back into work as I have had back surgery. He has low mileage so clean legs but does have a small scar on his front breast. :-) x

He would need to build up a lot of topline, slowly over the winter if you want to show next year.
I dont know how well schooled he is but would suggest for RH he would need to be about elem dressage level. He would have to go confidently for different riders [judges] giving them a comfy, well balanced and mannerly ride in walk/trot/canter/extension.
Would have to go in double/pelham for open classes.

thanks - some movements I have schooled him to are AM movements but he struggles to mantain a consistant outline so is really only at prelim/novice level. I have another lesson this Tues as not had one in over 4 months due to back surgery, he was going really well until he had time off. We were getting 65% at Novice level but he seems to have forgotten everything I have taught him lol. I used to show arabs and TB's are County level but never a horse bred for dressage. I only have a light double bridle which wouldn't suit him, what double bridle suits a WB? We are going to the BE show at Arena UK where the judge doesn't have to ride as have a feeling he wouldn't like that lol :-) x

A light bridle shoud be fine for now ,he has a pretty head.Try and find a plain wide noseband, the very thin ones look rather strange on a big horse imo.
Dont forget for RH he will need a coloured /velvet browband.
Good luck at the show, try and get your instructor to ride him sometimes in your lessons to get him used to different people on him for the future.

thanks - am now starting to think letting a Judge ride him would be a waste of time as he is such a spooky horse that you have to feel him tense and get hold of him before you fly down the otherside of the school & can just see the Judges face now! Think I will stick to showing where the Judge doesn't have to ride or aarrgghhhh just have him as a big pet lol. Am going to get my instructor to have a sit on him as she is an amazing rider and see if she thinks she can train us to do BD elem. will keep my eye out for a nice thick noseband - thanks :-) xx
