I went to see the horse today that hasnt been sat on for 12 months due to being used as a broodmare. She seemed nice, has a nice temperament, has good feet. Although I couldnt try her and she would need bringing back into work. I can have her on trial first but giving a deposit. Im not sure what to do. I#d need to buy a new saddle but Im not sure what to do. Shes by a good showjumping tb stallion. I said Id be in touch tonight but it all seems so fast this.

Arghh I dont know what to do. Yes I may get my money back on her in say 12 months time but Im taking a risk and her price isnt exactly what Id call enough to make some money back if she doesnt suit me.

Saddle wise, if you get something 2nd hand with a changeable gullet, you should more or less get your money back.

It might be quite fun to bring something back into work, but obviously try and negotiate on the price ..... however, try and decide whether your prime motivation is to make money, or produce a horse you enjoy riding .... the cost of buying a horse is normally the least of the factors financially which need to be taken into account.

well I think she's nice and she could have potential but Im certain the price is way over what I want to pay and what a project would be worth. But I feel he's pushing a bit. Would it be worth saying to him yes I may have her but can I come back and have a look at her or do I just take her on trial even tho he wants a deposit when she goes on trial. I need to think about this. I dont really want a project just thinking if she's not suitable I can sell her on.

could i suggest having he checked by a vet before you do it or not. get them to check her back ect. i know she might only be used as a brood mare because they wanted to use her as that but she might be hard to ride due to a problem. dont want to make you paranoid or anything just be careful :)

I 100% agree with the previous two posters before me, but as it is a buyers market - remember, it's you who can afford to be the pushy one :) Good luck!

I have decided against it, they were being too pushy which Im not happy with.
oh dear :o
there will be something else out there for you. just keep looking and staying positive :) i have seen plenty of nice ones which i just didnt feel were right for me until i found the one i have now. it took a while but im so glad i waited and didnt just rush in because i was being pressured xx
