Following on from a recent post regarding confidence. A few people on the thread recommended hypnosis, I'm wondering if anyone has tried this and if so did it work?

I am really struggling with a lack of confidence at the moment, and I have got to the point where I may even consider giving up so I am desperately seeking a way of getting my confidence back!!

If you have any tips or hypnosis recommendations, I am based in herts

Hypnosis in general works for lots of people but not all. The only way to know if it is for you is to give it a try!

You can find a reputable hypnotist in your area by contacting the British Hypnotherapy Association or alternatively by asking your GP.

I might have been one of the people recommending hypnosis. That's because I have just gone through the same thing as you myself and I am delighted to say that my confidence has returned after listening to a self hypnosis CD purchased online. I know hypnosis works for me as I was a chain smoker but became a non smoker after just one hypnosis session (one to one session in person). I didn't know whether a self hypnosis CD would work, but it certainly has! It only cost around £9 so not a lot to lose! Give it a try. And good luck, I know how you're feeling and it's dreadful.

I've had hypnosis for general relaxation in the past. My riding confidence is not great at the best of times due to problems with a previous horse. My current horse is so lovely but very sensitive. Last summer I was generally stressed and would ride to try to de-stress but because my horse is so sensitive he picks up on it so riding turned stressful and my confidence dropped. I had 3 sessions of hypnotherapy and felt a lot better. She made me visualise riding from mounting to riding scenarios and dismount. I feel it worked. As peanut said make sure to get a reputable hypnotherapist.

Another option for you to consider is NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) or 'tapping'. I was in your shoes end of last year - thanks to NLP I am back in the saddle and beginning to feel my old 'drive' come back. I would recommend it as something for you to consider. Just make sure you are taught how to do it by someone qualified in NLP. I was sceptical about it -as I am about hypnotherapy - but it does seem to work.

I had hypnosis for something else - inability to stop eating all manner of sweet junk food - but it really worked. Over 7 months now since anything remotely cakey, biscuity or desserty passed my lips. Hypnosis is certainly worth trying, as is NLP.
