We changed our insurance company this year to the Farmer's Union, and had an in depth interview regarding the risks on the farm.
We have a riding arena mostly for our own use but we have allowed trainers to use it provided they were covered by their own PL insurance cover.
I mentioned the local Pony Club use it now and then and instantly was told this was never to happen unless I informed them in writing every time..
There would also be a charge of £50 extra a year if I did..
I explained that the PC has very comprehensive cover and this was unnecessary to worry, but it cut no ice..
So if you ever allow anyone to use your private arena thinking you are covered with the NFU, do check your policy and talk to the Agent..
Our arena sadly will now rarely be available to outsiders as the risk is just too great...

Unfortunately, if your arena was put in with planning permission for private use only then you are in breach of this and most insurance companies void your cover if they get wind of it so be extra careful when letting even a friend use it. This is what we were told by our PL insurance company!!

Yes, we have been advised that by several Insurance Companies. (Not that we have an arena now!!)

i feel mean saying no people can't use my arena as i know how lucky i am to have it but i agree that the liability issue makes it just too risky
