For those who have done it, or do it....what did you do?

Always been interested in it but have never tried it myself, seen it on TV a few times but never heard people's first had accounts of what they do and the results they got?

That's a really good account. I have seen Join Up work wonders with some horses but it isn't something I want to do with mine. My big lad in particular is a sensitive soul and I don't think would understand why I was sending him away.

But to see it working like that must have been fantastic.

I agree that with some horses it shouldn't be done in a 'full' way as they are already semi-joined-up (if you can say so). You can play with elements though and it works.
Yes, it is honestly very emotional!
I think with this particular mare it helped her owner to bond with her (she started nicker to the owner on the field etc

Read a lot about horse's behaviour and observe your horse on the field at first. Make sure you know exactly what to do and what you look for in your horse. Maybe watch some demontrations. And then just try it

I do join up occassionally with mine if I feel they need it. It gives our relationship a bit of a boost I find. Was so funny the other day, I was bored and fancied loose schooling one of my boys but he just wanted to follow me. So he merrily followed my every move, reversing up when I did, turning on a sixpence, cantering after me then grinding to a halt when I did. He he, thought it was quite cute!

My nervy boy didn't like it. I posted about at the weekend. He got stressed very quickly when he was driven away by the instructor and cat jumped the 4 foot fence out of the arena. I had previously done join up with him in a properly enclosed arena and he was fine but I think all horses are different and some can't cope with being driven away.

I am persevering with the natural horsemanship approach though because I think that you can modify the techniques to suit individual horses.

We;ve done join up but works better on the lunge for us due to him being blind. We tried it in the jumping arena and I think it was a little big but he got the idea. He joins up really well and I'm convinced this is how we got through our terrible patch in the winter. I just lunged for 2 weeks, did joinup and got his confidence back in me.....
