Earlier on this evening I fell off my horse after she spooked, spun and reared (she has never stood up before). It all happened so quickly that she fell over backwards, landing on top of me and then kicking me across the stomach as she scrambled to get up. I was very luckily to walk away (or should I say run, chasing the beast) with only bad bruising thanks to the fact that I was wearing a BP, as always when out hacking.

This is the second time my BP has saved me from horrific injuries, the last time being when I was dragged across a field, behind a galloping pony to be left with a dislocated hip, without my BP I don't know how many ribs would have been broken and how many organs damaged.

So in short, may I encourage you all to at least try remembering to put on your BP's, even if they are uncomfortable (which I must say, mine is not) as it's a small price to pay for something that could save your life :)

I was speaking to daughter's osteopath who was recommending BP (daughter wears her all the time, she feels un-dressed without). She recently treated a lady who got totally flattened by her horse falling into a fence, and had a small head injury despite wearing a hat. She wouldn't have survived without her BP, as it was she didn't break anything.

MB glad you're sort of OK after that very hairy scary dismount! Hope the bruising eases quickly. I wear my BP all the time - started wearing it when my pony started napping when hacking out after I'd had him a few months. I've never come off out hacking yet but my BP has definitely absorbed the impact of the falls I've had in the school and when jumping in the grass paddock.

Gosh, glad you are OK! Sounds very frightening!

I have to say I only wear my BP when I think a horse might misbehave but I think I should maybe revise this and wear it all the time.

Oh heck, glad your ok, well better off than you would of been if not wearing your BP. :)

I'm now sporting a nice little blister on my collar bone, ( cos I'm built like a skeleton around the chest/neck area lol) and because I've been wearing mine everytime I ride now, its rubbed a hole in me :D:eek:

So I'm either not sat correctly, have poor conformation or one of the shoulder adjustments is tighter than the other.

Just to clarify MB's first accident wasn't on the current horsey - but the little angelic looking cuddly grey on her sig.
MBs dad was in A&E last week, I nearly went this weekend (fell over a paving slab!!!), she went last night for a check over, only her brother to go for a housefull!!!

Goodness, sorry to hear about your scary fall. I do generally wear my bp all the time, but sometimes when it's nice and sunny I do go without - shall make sure I keep it on. It is comfy so I am just rather lazy when I decide not to wear it!
Kenzo, mine does the same to my neck. I now ride with a collared shirt under my body protector and that protects my neck from being worn away - handy to have the long sleeves against sun, flies and grazes too!

Sorry to hear of your accident, good to hear your relatively unscathed thanks to your BP.
Well I have been wearing mine for years, they soon stop feeling stiff and uncomfortable, I am a real safety girl and wish more wore fluorescent's and BP's, but some never will be convinced
