well that is lower than it was recently I am sure back in the summer it was over £1 per kilo dead weight..... because I remember that many of the market ponies were selling for less than their meat price..... I think!
I received £330 for a 16 hand cob x TB a few months ago. He went in early September last year and was well covered and in good condition at the time. Sadly he was going blind and not coping.
The point is, is the 'knacker man' taking in anything at the moment? I seem to recall just over a year ago they (not Potters bar) had a waiting list and were paying on average £50 for a 16.2hh. Is that still the case and is it country wide? I only comment as a friend had a horse (at that time, just last summer) and she had problems finding anywhere that didnt have a long waiting list.
Potters didn't mention any problem taking the booking for my chap last summer. I was given the quote of 50p per lb for a horse. 25p per lb for a pony, I think. The carcass weight is not the same as the live weight though.
My gelding weighed 540kg (using a weigh tape) when he was taken to Potters. I was paid £330. That gives an idea of the difference in 'live' and 'carcass' weight.
