and ad critique please - she is on Horsemart but friend unsure on price HM920L7C8

** is one in a million, if you are looking for safety on legs, come and see her. She may not be an equine supermodel or superstar but she has the manners of a saint. Been there, seen it, done it and got the tshirt! She has done local shows, fun rides, beach rides, somerford etc and has even seen hounds out with the vale of lune. If you wanted to do a prelim or novice dressage test that would be fine too! She is guaranteed not to go faster than you want to, and will only ever do as much as you ask! (Comes fitted with airbrakes!) She will pop the odd crosspole and trot over poles without losing children on the lead rein (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfCuSu4vSww). She is snaffle mouthed at all times, but will go nicely in double reins if you want to do some local showing. She never pulls faces or bangs the door, and has lovely stable manners. She would suit a mother daughter share, or someone that just wants to have fun but stay safe. All jabs, teeth etc up to date. Passported. No vices or quirks, shes not overly keen on hacking on her own, but wont do more than stop at the gate on the way out! She comes with her tack (Fylde showing saddle) and all rugs.Very very sad sale as larger faster model now required! Reference available off current yard owner if required

I think its a good advert, but IMO she is over-priced. Mainly due to the fact that she's under 14.2hh. Realistically, I reckon she'd sell at £2,500.

I think its good. I would leave the price the same and see what reaction you get. Your friend can always drop it if neccessary but she might not need too! She sounds like a great family horse and im sure she'll get lots of interest.

I think people's immediate reaction will be 'overpriced' and they may well be right.

But she sounds like an absolute sweatheart. And what price a bombproof little horse??

I think she is over priced as she is not perfect to hack out alone and sounds like she only jumps very small jumps, though you have to take into account that she has an expensive saddle and all her rugs...so to replace all tack and rugs you are looking at least £500 possibly more so maybe not overpriced after all.

She sounds lovely and the advert itself is great, but I personally would not pay that much for her, more around £2,500 or so...

I bought my mare recently, who looks quite a bit like your friends but is black with two white socks. She sounds almost identical in temperment etc but she does hack alone easily, she's 14.3hh and 14 yo. I paid £2000 for her but with no tack or rugs.
Ok ok, an excuse to post of picture...

Following on from my previous subject 'horse price greed?' at http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4507049/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1

I have to say that this mare is ALMOST what I'm looking for. However, the fact that she doesn't like to hack on her own hints to me that the mare is a fraction insecure - which is immediatly a count against her being the utter bombproof I need.

I need one that can pull a cart also - whilst on the whole this mare would be sensible enough to train to one (probably in her sleep!), that tiny niggle that she isn't confident going out on her own would set me against trying to drive her as she would need to (literally almost) put blind trust in me. And I'm not confident driving!

As to price, I'd say she's £1000 overpriced. But if your friend can get the money for her, brilliant! Obviously there are still plenty of folk with money to spend (check out the poll on the link above - I'd be interested in your views also), but I'm afraid I'm not one of them at those sort of prices.

Safety IS of course paramount and well argued that you can't put a price on it - this mare however is only 14hh; had she been 15hh + I would have thought the price more appropriate. She'll show nicely at local level - and will no doubt be a world of kindness, gentleness and years of fun; however she'll never progress further than she is; what you see is what you get; and that amount of £3500 would only decrease as she's 11 now.
Say her purchaser paid that - and in 5 years time decide to sell her on as kids have gone to uni or some such; she'd be 16 then and you wouldn't get £3500 let alone a profit on her.
This scenario happens in the best of 'lifelong homes' due to unforseen circumstances and change of priorities.

And I don't advocate random breeding so I'm assuming no-one would want to 'take a foal from her' to try and make a bit of cash in the meantime <never, ever breed unless you're a professional. Rescue homes are full of the results.>

To that end then, I think that £3500 is too much for this mare, lovely as she is. I can't even get that for the car I'm selling.

oh and lovely horse chickeninabun - and I think you paid spot on the right price for height/type/age.

Thank you Saltires. She is my one in a million horse. She has given me back my confidence in leaps and bounds. I love her to bits.
And she, apparently, used to drive too but I'm afraid she's not for sale!!

I can't believe how similar they look!! Hope you two are really happy x

I have recently sold a very similar mare on horsemart but she is 15hh. I was inundated with people and could have sold her unseen to 2 interested persons (are people really that daft??)
She does hack out on her own as well and has been driven in the past.
I had 25 enquiries in the first few days and sold her within a week for my asking price (under £3K) no quibbling on price and no tack.
I have to say I asked how much people on here thought she was worth and had figures ranging from £850- £1500.
