On Friday evening when I went up to catch Bertie, I noticed that his field buddy, Bean looked awfully sticky on his neck from a distance. I shouted them both over and Bean had a large cut on his neck. First thoughts were fence/tree branch. I called his owner and brought them both in. With it being this time of year it was covered in flies and I didn't realise how deep it was intil we bathed it. The vet came down and on closer inspection was sure this was done with glass.
A few months ago we had found secondary school children playing truant in the field sticking glass and scissors into the ground, we were thinking perhaps this time they had gone one further.
Bean has had stitches, and the two have been moved well away from sight of school children (although it is now a long trec to catch them!).
Bean's owner went upto the school this morning, as it has been closed this weekend. Apparently she went absolutely mental with the headmistress who was again rather dumb when faced with the facts that a pupil had potentially injured a horse purposely. CCTV had been put up and is being checked this evening by the local police who we were quick to contact.
No only is this completely sick, wrong and twisted if it was the actions of a pupil, but I would be very worried about the welfare of a child attending that school- if truants playing in a horses' field goes unoticed god knows what else will, I thought children had to be accounted for at school!?
