I take home roughly 1.5k a month after tax... I have an office job, i'm 22 and have lived at home for the past 18months.

My horse is on DIY and costs me roughly £300 a month (including livery, hay, straw, shoes, insurance).

I pay gym membership to keep me sane, phone bills, money towards food/bills which is another £200 and somehow I manage to spend about £200 on petrol a month. I try to save £500 a month so one day I may be able to move out and the rest goes on having a social life and not looking like I spend *all* my time covered in mud ;) also, car tax, insurance, holidays. The money just disappears

I'm 33 and work full time as a teacher, earn around £39 K per year. Have own horse, house, trailer and 4 x 4 (still some finance on car) and 2 cats! Husband is also a teacher on the same pay. We split household bills 50/ 50 but pay for everything else of our 'own' individually, ie horse, 4x4, trailer and cats are mine.

House costs are pretty high but Ikeep horse at home so no livery to pay.

Someone asked about the cost of a trailer and towing car v's a lorry. I swapped my focus for a 4x4 last year and the running costs of the car aren't too much more. I use more fuel now, esp in summer when towing. My diesel costs maybe £60- £80 a month more, but I have a fair journey to work. Obv once the trailer is bought it costs very little appart from maintanence costs. To me, this was by far the cheaper option.
