I have just received this message from a friend on Facebook:

There is a meeting at Ashwells this Thursday 7.30pm about riders and problems facing them on the roads in the local area. Apparently the police will be there and I think someone from the Lib Dems, they are keen to get as many local riders to go as possible. There will also be a petition that people can sign.

Dont know whether it will make much difference to attendance but it is the BSJA Area 40 (Essex) AGM at Norton Heath that evening - perhaps would be a good idea to hold it before or after or even at Norton Heath?!

Hi- to those of you that attended this meeting, what were the outcomes?

Unfortunately, a BHS safety representative was unable to attend on the evening, but the department is very interested in the discussions that may have taken place and would be more than happy to support the cause. It is especially poignant following the launch of the new Horse Accidents website- www.horseaccidents.org.uk.

Many thanks.

Hi,

The purpose of the meeting did get distorted somewhat as the message was passed around, however it was still worthwhile.

It was actually organised by some local councillors, with the aim of discussing safety on Ashwells Road in general, for all users. There were many suggestions such as reinstating verges, installing more signage, making it a 20mph zone, and carrying out speed checks. Somebody suggested a 'Think Horse' campaign, similar to the Think Bike one, and the councillors said they would try to push this forward.

The Brentwood Gazette attended, so if you keep an eye on their website I expect a report will go up soon.
