Fondmort has been critically injured today breaking his pelvis resulting in serious internal injuries – please god he pulls through – my thoughts are with the owners, the Browns, and Nicky Henderson. It will a tragedy for NH if we loose him.

Oh no, that's really sad news.

He's such a great character and I think they are all genuinely fond of him.
Everything crossed that he recovers at least to enjoy the retirement he deserves.

my horse recovered from a fractured pelvis and is still going strong 9 years later - but it was a fracture, not a break, and didn't have the internal injuries.

Fingers definitely crossed but if he's a good patient which they say then he may make it OK

Taken from the Racing Post site:-

THERE was no change in Fondmort’s condition on Thursday, with Nicky Henderson’s chaser remaining critical following his accident while at exercise on Tuesday, but there was one or two more encouraging signs.

The Cheltenham Festival winner lost a considerable amount of blood when fracturing his pelvis, but no further blood transfusions have been required.

Henderson said: “Fondmort was looking out of the window and seemed quite perky when I saw him, and he has had a good sleep. He’s in with a chance, primarily because of his ironwill. We’ve taken up a bag of his feed, and the vet in charge, Bobby MacEwan, and his team are hopeful he’ll eat solids quite soon.”

He is a gelding, so covering is out of the question.
I doubt he will race again, even slight pelvis fractures stand a risk of reoccurance under stress. Would also surprise me if he could be ridden, all similar injuries I have known have been PTS in the end.
I dare say he will be found a good retirement home, maybe one of the rehabilitation centres, and go around parading.
On a similar note, Noland is also out for the season - broke down in training. I dare say he wont be the last either.

I would imagine that they're simply going to try to keep him alive......and as you say,he'll end up being retired.
TBH,I'm surprised he's survived this long, hopefully that means that he's given himself a fighting chance of pulling through

hmm. that certainly changes my view somewhat, I was under the impression all racehorses with injuries such as this would just be destroyed?

I have to say, I'm shocked a horse could injure himself so badly training, presumeably he must have fallen hard or something?

Your guess is as good as mine.
The last one I knew similar galloped full pelt into a five bar gate. He didnt eat for a week, didnt sh#t for a month. When, at the end of the summer, he still couldnt put his head down for grass we had him shot.
Pelvis injuries are very common on the gallops, especially with the 'top' yards who hammer up a steep hill every day.

Mick Fitzgerald was on the Morning Line this morning and he was asked about Fondmort. He was riding him when it happened was just doing a normal routine bit of exercise ie was not jumping. Mick F says the horse knew something was wrong and pulled up in about 2 strides, this is the only thing that saved him as he would have injured it worse the longer he kept going. He also said that Nicky Henderson had been up twice a day to see Fondmort at the vet hospital, and he had been up every day as well. I think this proves the affection they have for this horse.
