Just a quick (and general) post really.

I would like to hear peoples opinions, experiences and advice on what food you would feed a 6 month old male chocolate labrador who is not used as a working dog.

Thanks in advance :)

At six months not dog should be used for work!
Working dog on a label means it is VAT exempt - not the work the dog does.

Both my working bred labs who do not work are fed on Symply.

Bracken who is two had the puppy, then the adult (turkey) and he is now on the large breed.

Willow is on the puppy as he's a bub still.

Www.whichdogfood.co.UK has a thing where you put in your dog's breed and age and your preferences as to type of food and it comes up with recommendations. I used to feed raw, but I'm feeding Eden which is an ancestral diet feed now to my Lab and Springer

Found Burns dog food suits mine the best. Most important is that you feed for a slower growth period with a large breed or you may get joint problems.

I feed my 5 month old portie natural instinct puppy raw food and some raw meaty bones for variety :) he loves it and is the picture of health, with plenty of energy but not hyper.

Comes up as red on the traffic light system, as do some varieties of Burns. :(

EUKANUBA (medium breed, chicken)

Price (15kg): £48.99 Suggested daily amount: 150g Daily feeding cost: 49p

Ingredients: Chicken (24%), maize, wheat, animal fat, sorghum, barley, poultry meal, dried beet pulp, chicken digest, dried whole egg, brewers dried yeast, potassium chloride, salt, sodium hexametaphosphate, fish oil, linseed, DL-methionine, EC permitted antioxidants

By contrast, Eden:

15kg bag = £49.99

Approximate feeding amount: 194 grams per day.
Approximate feeding cost: £0.65 per day.

Ingredients: Chicken, 19%, Chicken 17% (from Dried Chicken), Salmon 16%, Herring 14% (from Dried Herring), Potato 10%, Sweet Potato 5%, Chicken Fat 5%, Duck 4% (from Dried Duck), Whole Egg 3% (from Dried Egg), Chicken Gravy 2%, White Fish 2%, Lucerne, Pea Fibre, Mineral & Vitamins, Carrot, Spinach, Apple, Joint Support Pack (Glucosamine (355mg/Kg), MSM (355mg/Kg) & Chondroitin (250mg/Kg)), Rosehips, Camomile, Burdock Root, Aniseed & Fenugreek, Thyme, Marjoram, Oregano, Seaweed, Cranberry and Prebiotic FOS

British made with British meat.

I also feed raw but my kibble of choice for emergency forgot-to-defrost-something meals and pocket kibble for training is Skinners duck and rice. It used to be Fish4Dogs but the quality has gone down, the price has gone up and it's not available through the ordering system at work to get my discount on it unlike the Skinners. :p

I use Skinners and dogs do well, add table scraps for variety along with chews or appropraite bones for teeth and a pet dog will do fine. certainly don't need

"Mineral & Vitamins, Carrot, Spinach, Apple, Joint Support Pack (Glucosamine (355mg/Kg), MSM (355mg/Kg) & Chondroitin (250mg/Kg)), Rosehips, Camomile, Burdock Root, Aniseed & Fenugreek, Thyme, Marjoram, Oregano, Seaweed, Cranberry and Prebiotic FOS"

table scraps daily especially any cooked veg will fill any gaps.
