I've got a 12 year old lurcher bitch who is getting rather wobbly behind and has been diagnosed with arthritis. Vet has prescribed Metacam, but I would also like to put her on arthritis relief type food. She's on Eukanuba for older dogs at the moment, but does anyone have any recommendations for other foods which might be more helpful? She's otherwise fit so I just want to make her as comfortable as possible.

arden grange senior is an excellent quality food for older dogs with lots of nice added goodies for joint mobility. would also recommend canine cortaflex.

I changed my minpin bitch over to an holistic food (Land of Holistic Pets) about 18 months ago - She gets Robbies in the morning and the Luath at night just for variation. I've also started adding NAF Relief to her food around the same time. I found that the diet kept her weight the best it's ever been, which has helped take some of the strain off, plus her coat looks really lovely and shiny, the best I've seen in ages. I'm sure the NAF Relief has more to do with helping the mobility than the food -but the combination is working wonders. Prior to the changes, she was struggling to get up one or two steps in my house. Now she does the full flight of stairs to the upstairs rooms in gallop. She's coming up for 16 in December, so not bad. :D

I should add that she has no problem with weight, she's more or less the same shape as she's always been. Coat looks good as she has a sardine in oil in her food every evening!

My lucher (2) has unfortunately had to have a cruciate ligament op x2. Whilst she doesn't have full blown arthritis at the mo it is thought in time it will appear. Having read good reports on the Lurcher Link forum I decided to include 'Mobile Bones' (made by the blue chip people sold via pooch & mutt) to her feed. It seems to be helping along with a drop of cod liver oil in her feeds.
