Food For Thought.....

Poor horse. When I first started reading the article I thought it was going to be the criminal service having gone mad - but reading on and the trailer not even being road worthy...

a year ago a certain person bought a cargo horse lorry to take two horses to shows , it had a mot etc , he goes to a few then notices that where a rubber mat has moved the floor looks a bit damp so he asks my husbands advise ( hubby is a very good carpenter and horse owner so knows what is needed), so hubby takes up the rubber mats partially and says floor is rotten and needs replacing immediatly as its dangerous , owner of lorry does nothing , takes his horses to a few more shows without incident then lorry runs out of mot so he decides to sell it , we buy it , and rip up the floor and replace with two layers of 3/4 inch marine ply , hubby was amazed the floor hadnt given way as it was only layered with cheap crap which was sodden
this chap was lucky , his horses survived , my point is he knew the floor was bad but didnt want to spend the money so risked his horses everytime he loaded them
we,ve seen some right horrors at local shows , ramps held on with baler twine m horses squeezed into tiny spaces etc .
never mind the fact that a lot opf people buy a horse lorry without even the basic knowledge of how to maintaion it safely

People should be responsible for keeping their vehicles in good condition imo. I've seen people expect to load horses into trailers in a terrible state and it amazes me there aren't more accidents. Maybe there are and they just don't get reported by the media. What a shame for the poor horse
