Food intolerances

Im not emailing you as I never receive a reply.

So ill put my comments here.
My horse (sadly passed away now) would have severe bouts of lymphangitis when the grass was too rich or his protein intake was too high.

hi, i had a cleveland bay gelding that was intolerant to all cereals, sugars and to alfalfa. this made it very difficult to find a feed that provide all he needed as a growing youngster. he would get lumps and bumps with lots of itching, and he would get very stressy and fizzy. cost me a fortune to find out all of his intolerances.

Mine seems to be intolerant to Mollichaff Calmer. He always comes up in lumps and bumps about an hour after eating it. He never has any reaction when eating anything else. I haven't worked out what it is in it that causes the reaction though.
 
honey goes mad on alfalfa if that's something you'd be interested in? not a controllable useful energy - a stupid daft bronking perfected a capriole energy....
can feed all other feeds though from what i know
 
Thanks for your responses - I'm now only looking for a horse that suffers from recurrent bouts of colic due to an intolerance, as I have found case studies for the other symptoms/signs.

I will also email you on this one. I had a Connemara x TB 15.2hh mare about 20 years ago who nearly died (kidneys) due to feeding her "mixes" out of a bag. I am an old girlie and an even more old-fashioned feeder. However, as decent broad bran is not available any more (like sawdust now) and keeping saucepans of Boiled Barley and Linseed on the Aga seems to have fallen by the wayside, what can one do? We always used to feed Bruised Oats (not the awful porridge which seems to be the norm these days), Broad Bran, Sugar Beet, Boiled Barley & Linseed - and Flaked Maize if something needed a bit of weight put on - and if their heads could cope with it. FM does tend to send some horses ballistic.
I had to ring that particular Company's laboratory to find out EXACTLY what c*** was in this feed. Once we were given this information, my vet could then treat the mare accordingly - and she did survive.

I've got a mini-shetland who has an intolerance/allergy to sugar beet. We're not sure if that includes molasses but I'm not going to try and find out.:s Apparently she swelled and came out in hives with sugar beet. We have to be very careful with feed for her.

I had a young TB who when he came out of racing became intolerant to all cereals and all sugars- he couldnt even eat grass - all he could have was really old hay and alfafla with a non-ceral based feed balancer. Colicked very badly whenever he had so much a whiff of sugar or starch in some remote form.Because he had such a miserable life and also a number of other problems he was Put down.
 
I've got a mare that is intollerant to sugars and starches - had relentless issues with colic - to the point where we developed our own range of supplements to help her!

I've now found enough case studies, but thank you to everyone who got in touch.
