Lubo has decided that he no longer likes the food he came home with so could anyone recommend something?

He came home wainwright's lamb and rice dry food but he's been turning his nose up at it for the last day and a bit.
I've been leaving it for 20 mins and then taking it away until his next meal.
Initially I though that maybe the food had gone stale and bought another bag which he quite happily ate but today we're back to him turning his nose up at it.
he's otherwise bright and happy.

Would you change food or give it another day? it could be stress but he seems chilled and settled.

He is trying it on! If you do change his food, he will soon learn that if he turns his nose up, he gets something different. Logan went through this phase at about 18 months old, I simply added some warm water to his kibble to release the oils etc. He soon started scoffing it again.

Stick to your guns, dogs wont generally starve themselves. :)

All but one of my dogs has done this I used to add cheese, sauce, gravy or an egg anything to get them to eat it they had me wrapped round their paws lol
I ended up going back to basics and persevering they finally got the idea that they weren't going to get anything else if they didn't eat and a dog will not starve themselves

thanks guys - I'm a bit paranoid because he's a rescue and I've only had him a few days.
I'm sure we'll be ok once he realises he's not getting anything else

Natures diet or wainwright trays are good for mushing with a bit of water to coat food or sardines in tomato sauce.
I used to feed WW salmon & potato till both dogs started to turn nose up at it & they aren't fussy types. Got another bag thinking perhaps that one was off & same reluctant picking, switched brands (still salmon & potato) and back to greedy pups.

well, he wolfed down his dinner - come 5pm he was hungry so as of tomorrow he's not getting the lunchtime meal the shelter said he was to have.
thank god he ate it because I have a 15kg bag of the stuff. :tongue3:

new complication - he's eating his dry food but he's being sick after it.
he was sick yesterday morning (ate all his kibble the night before) and he was sick again this morning after eating all of his dinner.
think I'll give the vet a phone when they open just in case

I've gone through this with most of my samoyeds (until I changed to raw), and it took so much frustration, worry and experimentation until I decided that they'd eat what I gave them eventually.

Since changing them all to raw, no one has turned their noses up at anything put in front of them :)

Maybe split the feed into much smaller amounts so he can't inhale it all at once. Maybe he's been hungry before you got him and now he's anxious to get it down ASAP?

he was getting 3 meals a day but he wasn't eating his lunchtime meal and only picking at his kibble.
He had a bit of tuna and a little bit of rice this morning and he's been fine since so I don't know what's going on with him - he's happy in himself and wanting to play.

I phoned the vet and they want to see him this afternoon just to be sure.
I wonder if there's something in the food that doesn't agree with him because he's been fine on rice and chicken/tuna
