My bitch is a grayhoundxstaffxbull terrier. She is currently 19 months old and very active. She comes down to the yard where I work all-day and is starting to look skinny. She is currently fed a small cup on country value complete food for breakfast and has half a wheet box chub with half a cub of country value in the evening with treats throughout the day. Can anyone recommend a food to gain weight with out making her more fizzy as I did up her biscuits but it made her into a fruit loop! she is 23' long and weighs 24kgs.

I don't know any of those foods sorry. Small meals and often if you want to gain weight usually I just up what I am giving and split the meals out so it doesn't just get poo'd straight out.

You might want to look at the quality of your food though.

You are feeding her on a diet food;-
Cereals, meat and animal derivatives (min 4% chicken) derivatives of vegetable origin, oils and fats, vitamins and minerals.

Analytical Constituents:

Protein 19%, Oils and Fats 9%, Fibre 3%, Ash 8%, Vitamin A 12,000 iu/kg, Vitamin D3 1,800 iu/kg, Vitamin E 70 mg/kg, Copper (as cupric Sulphate) 15 mg/kg.

Upgrade to one with 23/24% protein and 10 - 12% oil. Supadog Active would suit if she isn't intolerant to all the rubbish in her current dry.

The chub is actually not too bad - you could try doubling that for now.

If its the country value Im thinking of (orange bag) its pretty rubbish and not good for weight gain.

Tripe is the main contender for weight gain, if you cannot stomach the butchers stuff which is the best buy some prize choice bags all frozen in packets (box of 12) pop in microwave for 4 mins and mush up in food (split bag between 2 meals). You can also get beef, lamb and rabbit.
Also for dry to mix with the tripe I would highly recommend Arden grange (lamb and rice) for weight gain.
I have a very lean lurcher (it bothers me non) as he is active and bright) the best weight gain we saw was RAW with alot of tripe.

My old lurcher used to get tripe and eggs. I'd buy the frozen bags. I used to boil the kettle and pour over the tripe to instantly thaw it out. I thing CAYLA must have a strong stomach or no sense of smell to do it in the microwave....well done ;)

Brochan gets Wainwrights kibble (currently lamb and rice) topped with Wainwrights wet food (currently chicken and rice). You can only get this brand at Pets at Home, but it is good quality (free from by-products, vegetable derivatives and other cheap nasty ingredients). He seems to thrive on it and it has never upset his stomach. That's about the only thing I can suggest as there's never been a problem keeping weight on him.

try RAW, mine put on weight with chicken necks, and they love them. 5 a day for my beddy and 7 a day for my whippet and they put weight on, one less each a day and they maintain weight. I add in butchers pet mince to regulate solidity of poos! And that costs me about £2 a week for both dogs! Avoid wheat and grain products as dogs are not designed to eat those and they promote allergic behaviour and stomach problems. I am a total RAW convert having struggled for 12 months to get my Beddy to eat and put on weight he now loves his food and his weight is as it should be now

I have just got an underweight lurcher to put on 1,5 kg in two weeks without upsetting his insides by feeding him four times a day on the JWB dry Lamb and vegetables. Not cheap but some good deals on the net. (I am not allowed to feed him raw by the rescue I foster for). No cereals to worry about and no hyperactivity. Make sure your worming is effective as well, most over the counter stuff does not really work.
