Fool proof way of teaching stubborn Rising 3yr old to trot inhand....

Sensibly...

My rising 3 yr old filly is fab on the lunge line and understands voice commands but infuriatingly she is a stubborn mule when it comes to trotting inhand and as Im hoping to take her to some shows next year Id quite like her/need her to be able to trot! Lol!

So any tried and tested methods??!!

If you have help, get them to follow and encourage her to move as you ask her to trot on, a clap of their hands is often all that is needed, repeat over a few days until she goes without outside assistance.

If alone, carry a schooling whip stay close to a fence line with her against the fence, ideally going in the direction she is most keen on, towards the stable or field can work, tell her to trot and give a quick flick with the whip if needed.

Do not hold too tightly or look back at her. If she just does a few steps praise and repeat gradually getting her to go further.

Once she gets the idea practise in different places until she is confidently moving with you,you run she should trot, she should then start to show her paces as required for showing.

I have outside assistance so will try that as have tried the schooling whip and she rears...lovely, I'll still carry a schooling whip but Id rather it be a positive experiance
