How long can one lay domaited sp? for?? Mine been on off lame for nearly two weeks and havnt got worse. Had the farrier out last week to check for a abcces didnr reactd to the hoof tester's. Heat in the same foot as last time. This have happen before for only to burst out 5 weeks later and was complety sound before him being shod. He got shod today and still no signs of it lame on same foot heat etc same spot. He's happy in himself eating and not swifting weight from foot, weight bearing on it too. I havnt tubbed his foot as I don't want to soften his foot if it's not ready to come out yet.

I will get vet out if no better just would rather it came out on it's own then having to dig at the foot causeing more problems. He does get them in his hind's a bit but is hopping lame on 3 legs cant weight bear and is unhappy etc. This one is in front and is showing all the same sign's of his last one in front foot!!! So could it be another couple of weeks before it comes out??

They can be there for at least a month before making the horse completely lame then bursting.

Just get on with tubbing it, and get farrier or vet to come cut it out next week. No point waiting for things to get worse - sometimes they dont burst out through the sole if you've left them - and if it comes out via the coronary band it will be far more uncomfortable for your poor horse.

Also, if hes lame but not hopping and no sign on hoof testers then may not be an abscess at all. Sorry I dont agree with leaving him a few weeks to wait and see - unless you are giving him some bute to relieve the discomfort and box resting him in the mean-time in case its something more serious.
Has he got a digital pulse? How long has he had one if so? How lame is he? What sort of work was he in prior to lameness?

He didnt show up with tester last time no lameness before shoeing just the black guk ever the farrier was surpised. He got a very sight dp workwise was only light as had no saddle so bareback riding. I will see how he is over the weekend.

Vet coming out tommorrow so tubbing it will be. More then likely I end up with most of the water on my feet!! He's a right bugger to tub his foot!!!
